Why not buy out Wallace

Post#1 » by DanTown8587 » Sun Jan 13, 2008 9:59 am

Lets say the Bulls at the end of the season gave Wallace a 22 million dollar buy out of the 28 he is owed, why wouldn't they? He has 0 trade value, would allow the Bulls to sign some big name player, or if they choose to go under the cap, they could trade for a guy like Gasol and only have to give a little money in salary.

Or the Bulls could buy out the last year of his deal and make him an expiring contract, thus raising his value.

If pax decided to buy out wallace, he would admit that he made a mistake by signing him. He has got to play wallace off as still useful to protect his job or for hope of a trade. If he asked for a buyout and I was an owner who just lost 22 mil, I would be pissed as hell; definately pissed enough to fire the guy who made the mistake.

He is still capable of playing. His numbers as of late have been better and he still gets playing time. No need to buy him out.

perhaps you should read more on this board about things like salary caps and what not. your premise is false.

His salary would still count against the cap. We could sign no one.

BW presents a very tricky situation for a GM:

a) He is worth no more than 7-8 million per year. But he is still a baller. Just not a 14 per kinda player.

b) He is very useful in the playoffs. Really. As much as I hate his, this is true.

c) He is a money making machine for Reinsdorf and his marketing cronies. No wonder they allowed him the headband. No Afro = Loss of Revenue

d) He is a huge expiring in the same year that a tonne of marquee players are gonna be FA available.

So, theres that to consider. We ate dust on Tim Thomas for an entire season. I am sure we can eat BW's inconsistent play for a couple of seasons more.

Thats unless a marquee name becomes available for him (unlikely).
For love, not money.

+1

Dantown, please stop starting threads that show off poor knowledge of the NBA in general and the Bulls in particular. If you must make posts like this, keep them confined to existing threads. Thank you.
