If I'm down and have other competent players on the team no doubt I'd go with LeBron.

you better hope those competent players aren't chokers. take arenas for example, competent but a choker. whenever kobe has passed (luke walton, vlad rad) in the final seconds, his teamates miss. at least he now has fisher.

Arenas has hit a ton of downright ridiculously long 3 points to tie games and or take the lead. So I wouldnt exactly call him a choker

NBA GM's unanimously picked Kobe for the last shot. I don't know how anyone who watched the NBA for the last 10 years at least can pick anyone but Kobe for the last shot.

actually Kobe and Wade are bit overrated for last second shot the past 2 season..IMO clutch is not only about last seconds shots though.

I base clutch on how the players step up in the playoffs, or in the 4th quarter overall most importantly..

Melo is probably better than anyone on last second shots...yet i would take i whole bunch of players over him in clutch situations cause of his playoff numbers (last year he played well though).

BTW where can i see the numbers for 4th quarter points, last seconds shots, etc...

Im pretty sure Lebron and Wade are top 2 in 4th quarter points this season.

Which one of those players leads an elite team and generally separates themselves from the opposition in the fourth?

Yes, and normally I'd agree. However, we're only down one in this situation. This year, Kobe gets fouled on 14.4% of attempts whereas Wade gets fouled in 20.8%. They have virtually the same number of ballhandling turnovers this season. Wade shoots a higher FG% than Kobe in every year since his rookie season. If I'm down one, I'm gonna take the guy with a higher FG% and the better ability to draw fouls. If I'm looking at sheer points, I'll favor TS% or perhaps eFG%. However, on the last shot you need to opt for the guy with the best ability to make one point. I take Wade. If I need more than one, i probably go Kobe. That's not the question, though.

Turkoglu is 2nd after Lebron. They showed the top 5 during the Jazz game today.

I'm not too sure about the others but i know Kobe has not had to play many 4th quarters because of the margin of victory

Thats an exceedingly foolish stat. Look at the leaders. They're generally the leaders of so far mediocre-to-bad teams. Why? Because you need your stars to do something special to get you back in the game. The stat isn't completely useless, but lets see their FG%, TS, TO, and minutes played. Without context, this is just a bunch of numbers.

why isn't tim duncan getting some love here. if there's under 5 mins to go in the 4th, i go with duncan. he controls the flow of the game on the both ends of the court, and he's a very clutch shooter. his FTs are his only weakness.

Contrasting Lebron to Kobe in this question is interesting because they have entirely different styles.

Lebron will always look for the drive first which can be to his detriment as refs don't always blow the whistle @ end game situations, and he's not a good FT shooter. For that same reason though, down the stretch of games he is a killer. It demoralizes opposing defenses when he is throwing down dunks/laups and kicking out to shooters.

For the last play of the game, down 1 though I think you have to go with Kobe. His footwork is superior which allows him to create a cleaner look for himself if teams deny the lane. He can get off a clean, on-balance 20 footer. And he is just more proven.

my picks
arena: Energy Solutions Arena (GMs agree with me)
coach: Phil Jackson
end to end ball handler: Deron Williams (he is proved for these types of situations)
the stopper: Shane Battier
Last shat down 1: Mehmet Okur, Ray Allen (both very efficient clutch shooters compared to Kobe or BD. Mehmet has the size and the sickest range)

Arenas would be the Warriors one.
Coach would be ME
End to end I'll give it to Tony Parker.
Stopper I'd give to LeBron James. We're talking about possibly 1-2 shots. Bruce Bowen and Shane Battier are weak. Bron is fast and strong.
Last shot down 1, give me Kobe
i like peanuts

There's not a place that I know of that breaks down those stats for just the 4ht quarter, but there is a place (82games.com) that tracks them in the last 5 minutes and overtime of games where neither team is leading by more than 5 points. From that you can get eFG%, FT%, points per 48 minutes, assists per 48 minutes, assist/bad pass ratio, team net points per 48 minutes (i.e. how many points that player helps their team outscore their opponent by in clutch situations).

Here's a table with those stats for the 5 players listed for most 4th quarter points (plus Turkoglu, who was apparently overlooked in the 4th quarter scoring stat), with the leader in each category numbers bolded, listed in order of team net points per 48 minutes (i.e. how effective they are in helping the team outscore the other team with the game on the line). The columns

eFG%, FT%, points per 48, assists per 48, assist/bad pass, team net points per 48.

LeBron: .539, .825, 62.8, 8.2, 17.0, 32.8
Davis: .650, .800, 39.5, 11.2. 4.3, 27.0
Turkoglu: .490, .933, 36.9, 7.7, 4.3, 26.8
Kobe: .542, .750, 54.3, 5.7, 2.0, 7.1
Joe Johnson: .569, .800, 40.7, 7.1, 10.0, 4.3
Wade: .381, .756, 42.6, 7.7, 6.0, -25.2
Deron Williams: .478, .739, 29.2, 9.0, 4.0, -41.9
