Salvistine24 wrote:i like iggy but there like almost any player are two very different views on him...

one side sees him as underrated by most accounts, a guy who does it all, fills the stat sheet and is a solid part of the future going forward

others see a guy who is about to get paid who has yet to avg more than 20 ppg but will get paid like a guy who is supposed too with little regard to the other things he does

both sides have characteristics about iggy which are true and prevalent and combined tell the whole story

imo, iggy is what a 9th overall pick should be...a solid nba starter who can look real good at times but for the most part is consistant and solid...he is where his developement should...now i think in our rebuilding effort, we as fans want something to grasp and hold onto to say the future is bright...and since we really didnt get it in the iverson trade, we lean on iggy which isnt fair...hes a nice player but he isnt a franchise guy...he isnt even a pippen..hes a good basketball player and thats it...we need to accept that he is above average but our hopes and feelings shouldnt be too tied into him bc we havent rebuilt quite right yet...at some point soon, we will have that young franchise guy and then we can get behind him, whether its in this draft, through rfa, or via a guy already on roster (thad maybe?)...

until then lets accept iggy for what he is and not have these unreal expectations and feelings...he can be traded but he is our best trade chip right now...no reason to just get rid of him for the sake of doing it...

Strong post. I agree with much of what you are saying.

A few things- as SendEm pointed out- if we take your view we have to be careful not to overpay Iguodala. Fortunately he's only coning off his rookie contract to he can't get crazy Rashard Lewis money. Also, I doubt there will be other cpmpetition to drive up his price.

Given solid role players like Noccioni make 8M, I think we will be O.K. if we end up starting at 9.5M ( that will average our to be about 5yr/53M after yearly raises.)

Also, I think you (and most people) overrate draft picks. Iguodala is easily one of the better #9 picks in the last 20 years. Most end up being poor if not marginal NBA players. Here is a good list/analysis of players draftered at each pick: http://www.82games.com/nbadraft2.htm You can see Iguodala is much better than the average #9 pick (Rodney Rogers and Joel Joel Pyrzibilla.)

Similarly, to compare him to Pippin is unfair. I realize the similarity in their games, but Pippen is the gold standard, the best Robin ever- and was choses as a top 50 all time, HOF player. You can be a good complementary star on a contender without being anywhere near the level of a Pippin. I see Iguodala as being a bit better than a Sean Elliot in his prime, who was the #3 star on a great Spurs team

Let me clarify, I see Iguodala in 3 years in his prime being a bit better than Sean Elliot in his prime.

He acts like he hates him in order to get a maximal response- and in your case it seems to be working... too well.

SendEm doesn't hate Iguodala- he just thinks we give him a free pass, and thinks he is overrated for being the front man on a horrible team- like Spoon was on the post Barkley Sixers.

If we still had Iverson and Korver I would certainly consider that kind of trade. Farmer and Turiaf are future starters and would play excellently with AI and Kyle while Iggy's potential $10 mil will be off the cap and we could pursue another free agent. The 1st round pick could materialize into a player that develops nicely. That would be a interesting trade. BUT as the Sixers are constructed it would be an even harder decision to make. If Farmer keeps developing like he has been and Turiaf turns into the solid starter that I know he will be the Lakers one day might be seen as giving up too much. That's an interesting trade, as a GM I would attempt to get even more, its hard to give a definitive answer because I would need to watch more game film of Farmer. Pure PG's and Bigs with basketball IQ's and motors are hard to come by in comparison to utility wing players like Iguodala...

I'm watching this Pacers vs Kings game and I really don't want Iggy to be another Mike Dunleavy Jr. clone. He's right now in the same position that Dunleavy was in. They both were on horrible teams pressuring the ownership to overpay for there potential or risk losing them, but Dunleavy's camp performed a more masterful con job, because Iggy is REALLY looking like he isn't worth the money BEFORE the deal is inked. I'm looking at these two teams and see players with the same skill set and in the same realm of quality as Iggy and I'm sure they won't be getting overpaid when the time comes, Garcia and Danials. Iggy clearly isn't as good as Kevin Martin. These wing players are easy to come by.

Fransico Garcia???????? That guy has always suckeed ( IMO he wasn't evn the best player on his college team, that was Larry O'Bannon BTW). Garcia is trash, Iggy is way nore athletic, play defense and doesn't suck in general. as for Daniels, He's been on like 5 teams already, so yeah there. I could see you comparing Iggy to guys like Rudy Gay or Ariza because tehy all have similar toolsets but Garcia and Daniels? WTF?

Reading this thread makes me realise that basketball fans are just as fickle as football (soccer) fans.
So he's not at his best atm, it happens. Are people just going to ignore all the good things he's done in his career so far or concentrating on 5 games.

If you are looking for a pure shooting wing player, then Martin is better. I don't know that anyone has looked at Iguodala in that manner...he's more versatile and has always been showing an upward trajectory. This is the first portion of his career where there hasn't been improvement, but I still defer to give him the remainder of the season to make final judgement. I still take Iguodala over Martin, b/c I agree wing players are easier to find than skilled bigs...especially one dimensional wing players such as Martin.

As for the Lakers deal, Turiaf starts on the Sixers, and is a high motor PF that would upgrade the roster. I'd take Crittenton over JF, and then add in a #1 pick in order to consider, and I'm not sure I'd take that.

Somewhere between the Garcia/Daniels and the Pippen/17/5/5 club comparisons is the reality of Iguodala at this point. If you're looking for one dimension of a wing player, I think Iguodala is easy to replace...Martin is a great example. If you're looking for a versatile wing who is productive, it's not as easy as some would make it seem.

I posted a number of possible Redd trades in the trade board, I am wonder how you feel about your teams trade idea (they are supposed to be starting points not final deals). I tried to be fair, but obviously my opinion from Milwaukee may vary greatly from yours.

The topic is here:

Here is an article from philly.com that makes me feel a little better about Igoudala. It appears he is learning from his difficulties and is apparently able to be coached out of forcing so much. And ... this is the first time I really saw that the 57 million he was offered was for 5 years. He will probably get that offer again and is probably worth it.

Wow, you really initially thought the $57 million was for less than 5 years?

I knew it was for 5 years and now believe that it is too much. It was a fair offer AT THE TIME, but now he has been exposed as less than a $11+ million a season player. He should not be getting paid more than Josh Howard, Manu Ginobili, Kevin Martin and Tony Parker. Paying him $57 million over 5 season will do just that. The Sixers fail if they pay him that much.

dond:

If Thad is our SF of the future, and Iguodala - by definition - is our 38 mpg SG of the future, there is no freaking way that I am paying him $57 million for 5 years...unless Stefanski pulls a rabbit out of his azz and comes up with a legit low-post-scoring PF.

Late May...2nd round playoff against the Pistons/Celtics/any good defensive halfcourt team...game 5, tied 2-2...less than 2 minutes to go in a tied game...Sixers ball in the halfcourt set...Iggy at SG and Thad at SF...

Who the f*ck is going to score the ball?

If we have Amare/KG/TD or somebody like that in the low-post, then I'm cool with having both Iggy and Thad out there...but if we DON'T have a low-post threat (to collapse the D and give Iggy some space), do you honestly think that either Iggy or Thad could get the ball on the perimeter and score the ball in that situation?

I don't.
