JWill is not low risk...

Let's go over all of the risks... he has bad knees... lord knows what this guy will try in an offense that doesn't punish you for bad shots... below average defense... while he'd only cost 4 mil, he'd eat 8 mil of our TPE. He would also be responsible for making Mulson's 10 day contract look like a waste of time, and that would be a crippling blow to the FO of the organization :roll:

If the Heat fans think they can get something good for JWill's expiring, let them.. Besides, Hudson's is due back by the Western Conference Finals :nod:

You cannot combine the Trade Exception w/ any other assets as a "throw in". It must be trade exception for salary dump. You can have a seperate transaction to compensate the other team, but it must make sense financially.

I don't see the Warriors interested in Williams especially with Watson looking capable minutes at point guard. If they're going to use the TPE, it'll be for someone like Chris Wilcox or CV who would have more of an impact than Williams. If there is going to be a trade with Miami, it'd be for Pietrus. Also, nothing serious will happen unless Miami puts Dorell Wright on the table.

All things considered...no

I'm thinking Watson is a better bet than THud....and J Will MIGHT be useful--but that's STILL a bunch of $. If we fret over the dread Lux tax...even a hit of a few mill.,then why toss big $ at a #3 pg? With J Will's questionable durability.....it just don't add up.

im a good fan as it is, but with jwill on the team i'd watch even MORE if thats possible...it isnt so i wont. but even tho hes not the same kings jwill, its still jwill!!!!!!!!!!! he would fit in our system...u can criticize his bad shots and think baron takes good ones. nelson can put him on a leash....jwill over hudson any day of the week. if jwill can come in and run things for a bit and hit some jumpers and do some magic then hes all good.

I was all for JWill at the beginning of the season (before we picked up Thud and now CJ) and really wanted to move MP when we were in a position to do a S & T but now, I don't think he's even worth MP or our TPE and Miami really doesn't have any players that I'd like to see coming over. I'd much rather (at this point) hold onto our TPE and wait until the trade deadline and see if there's someone better available at that time. Miami had the opportunity but wasn't willing to give us a decent deal (tried to push Doleac and Simien on us) when we could have done a sign and trade. With Williams showing a lack of durability, I don't believe we need another broken down point guard (look at what happened with Thud) when all we are looking for is health insurance if Baron breaks down.

This isn't really accurate, and the trade he suggested is totally legal. As I explained in the Ron Artest trade, what happens is:

Jason Williams for a 2nd round pick

This trade is under most circumstances not legal because the Warriors are over the cap. However, we hold a trade exception that allows us to take on Williams salary despite being over the cap. Deal done.

As a side effect of this, Miami is over the cap and trades Williams without taking players back. This creates an exception on their end in the size of JWill's contract.

So while it is never really accurate to say we trade the exception (instead we use ours, and a new one ends up getting created on the other end), the trade is entirely legal.

he's too injury prone this year, taking a $700K chance on THud is one thing, there's no way any GM/owner/team in the league gonna take a $8 Mil chance like that.

Just because it can be done does not mean it SHOULD be done.

JWill is not going to help the Dubbs anyway if he is in a suit. And his Asian insult is not going to be welcome here.

If White Chocolate were signed, wouldn't his entire salary count against the Warriors' cap this year, not just a pro-rated portion?

And CPH, in the scenario above, "Jason Williams for a 2nd round pick," wouldn't GS exercise their TPE to acquire Williams... then if a 2nd round pick needs to go to Miami as compensation, "something" else would need to come back to the Warriors to complete that part of the trade. Certainly something negligible, but something.

It would count against their cap, but that's irrelevent, as he's an expiring. What's important is that you wouldn't go over the tax, and it appears you wouldn't. We don't need a 2nd round picka as compensation. We just want to get under the luxury tax, and we'd do JWill for TPE.

Back to your question, yes, his entire salary would count against your cap this year, but that wouldn't affect you negatively in any way. You would only have to pay him a pro-rated version of his salary.
