Jose Calderon

Post#1 » by teamLeiweke » Sun Jan 13, 2008 9:06 pm

With all the debate on these boards about what this team needs at PG, with this win especially, this thread is dedicated to the tremendous play of Jose Calderon.

The efficiency of this guy is stunning.

The onions of that 3 was incredible.

The emotion, his desire to win is such a pleasure to watch.

He says all the right things in interviews.

I love him.

It has been so much fun watching him grow from the first time he came to the raptors, and looked like a bright PG with no jump shot.

Now he is an elite PG in the NBA and playing with so much confidence.

Today:
53:55 mins, 22 pts, 7-10 fg, 3-4 3pt, 5-5 ft, +5 rat, 10 ast, 3 reb, 2 stl, 1 very clutch 3 pt in OT

Raptors 20-17

Trabajo bueno, Jose!

Jose SHOULD go the allstar game. him and Bosh have carried this team, sometimes with no help at all from guys like parker, bargnani, delfino or kapono.

Based on his play, he's probably the second best point guard in the East behind Kidd. You could argue other points are better on the basis of scoring, but Jose has done an admirable job in TJ's absence.

I still wish he would work on his D a bit. It's getting better I think, but it seems like he still has mental lapses sometimes.

Yeah, I wonder what's going to happen when Ford gets back? How can you take this guy out of the starting line-up? Simply, you can't.

I just hope if Ford is asked to play off the bench he can become our X-factor off of it in a 6th man role ala Ginobli.

Ford at 6th man, to me, makes so much sense.

It's not a demotion. Use his explosiveness when the starters on both sides are wearing down.

Down the stretch, play Ford at the 2 alongside Calderon. Make sure they both play 30 mpg.

Anyone who thinks this guy isn't a top 10 PG is a moron.

The scary thing about this thread (well at least imo) is that TJ iwould be slightly better at being the franchise PG. And that speaks volumes of Jose.

Bosh is pretty good too when he does not put the ball on the floor,
so:
- if AP was more consistent
- if Bargnani played like last April
- if Hump was consistent
- if MoPete ... just kidding
- if Delfino + Moon did not take bad shots
- and if Garbo was back

I think we would be a contending team

Too many if statements but, I think we have a chance if we make the playoffs and we do not meet the Celts.

Don't know if Ford is a big enough man to accept such a role.. (no pun intended)

I wish Jose would let loose sometimes instead of holding the ball back... I think thats whats holding him back from being even better.. Several times today we had a fast break which he slowed down, and Bosh had a clear dunk twice at the end where Jose opted to slow it down and run the clock... we ended up going empty on one of those posessions...

Thats really my only complaint, other than that you can't complain about his performance... Once TJ comes back it will be interesting to see if Jose can continue this off the bench...

And the answer is when TJ ford is 100% back to normal.... he isn't just going to get the starting job like that and take Jose out of is flow..... when TJ is back to normal and Jose still doing good with the reduction of the minutes... Tj will get back the starting job

as well as Jose has been playing, he is still not as good as TJ. i'd rather see him get traded to a better team than being benched.

I would rather see him come off the bench.

And I like Jose but I like the Raps more

Ford is starting when he comes back guys...Calderon meshes with the bench better than Ford does. Ford has to play with the starters.

The way I see it, for now Jose and TJ are equals. But I do prefer TJ starting. I also am in agreement that we need both of them to be an elite team.

lol Calderon has the most stupidest celebration I have ever seen. Its like a hybrid of a Jalen Rose, Ballerina and a guy from one of those lame pizza commericals. He needs to work on the celebratioins, other than that a complete player. I am still worried about Bargs and Kapono.

TJ will never be normal. He has a condition called spinal stenosis. The question of which one between him and Calderon is better I don

It would be insulting to Jose if TJ comes back and instantly starts. Once TJ gets back and proves he can play then he deserves it.

Jose has proved to play incredible play WITHOUT a backup PG.
