Flash & BBallFreak,

I think the problem with your proposed approach is that it doesn't take into account the Heat already have one of the best basketball players in the world - D Wade. He's already experienced winning a championship. Your "wait it out" strategy dooms the Heat to being doormats for the three years running with no guarantee anything is significantly better by the time D Wade can choose what team he wants to play for via free agency.

As a Sonic fan, and knowing the Sonics are already ahead of the Heat in the rebuilding process (K Durant & J Green), I prefer the Heat take your approach as the Sonics would be in a great position to pursue D Wade at that time. And D Wade would likely be ready for a change of scenary.

Oh here we go again. "Wade's gone if you don't do something stupid". The Karl Rove school of trade proposals.

NO!

We're not going to be financially moronic to become mediocre. Pass!

W Szczerbiak's contract is this season and next. S Brown's small contract expires this season. Both L Ridnour's & E Watson's contracts end the same time as Shaq's. That is not financially moronic.

What would be financially moronic is let $18.5M in contracts (J Williams, Zo & R Davis) expire at the end of the season and be stuck up against cap (ok, only $52M) with only seven players on the payroll. If you think 2007/08 is working out poorly for the Heat, wait until 2008/09 in this scenario.

And by the way, mediocre contends in the east.

You ever hear of something called the luxury tax? If not, perhaps you want to look it up...

Why are you bringing up the luxury tax? Busting that was a foregone conclusion years ago when you signed Shaq and were smart enough to draft D Wade.

We haven't done it yet, and I see no need to do it so we can be mediocre next year.

Wade wouldn't go to Seattle. Our strategy has changed since we originally talked. Watson isn't really an option for us any more. We've transitioned to the rebuilding stage of things IMO. And if not then we should be.

Riley has maintained that we'll find a way to get under it by the deadline. I bet JWill gets dumped.

Well guys, it's been an interesting dialog. And an interesting season so far. The Sonics rebuilding was obvious to all, but who would've guessed that about the Heat? Anyway, thanks for the perspective. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens by trade deadline, not only in this situation but all around the league. Wishing you and the Heat the best.
