the ref blaming has been big because we have been getting royally screwed by the refs the past two weeks.... its not a valid excuse for our lose last night that would be the ten missed free throws. its not a valid excuse for the loss to sacramento, that was lack of intensity. its not a valid reason for the loss to denver that was getting out played in the fourth. but ever we lost that first game after our four game winning streak we have been getting screwed by refs. cant blame the whole loss on the refs but it DOES factor in

But on that note, Ascheier, I find it very ignorant of you to label our entire fanbase just because of the words/actions of some posters. Remember, we have one of the biggest fanbases on RealGM. Not everyone here agrees on the same views and issues. :-?

yeah. it's true. both from the players and the fans. regardless of how bad it is, complaining won't get us anywhere.

also, it's not like our team has been putting out convincing wins. perhaps a statistician can look it up for me, but it seems like we haven't had a convincing win margin, say 10 points or so, for a long, long time.

Seriously? A Detroit fan telling us to stop complaining? You root for the biggest bunch of whiners in the world. Sheed and Hamilton bitch about every call. The Pistons are the biggest bunch of referee complainers in the league.

Magic have got to play better (primarily on defense), and they should expect better officiating of their games. There is no excuse for either. And frankly, I have watched a lot of basketball in the past couple weeks and I have seen a lot of bad officiating. There have been some well-officiated games, but a lot of really poorly officiated games.

I think it means something that Van Gundy was frustrated on this trip, though. He hasn't said a darned thing about the officiating all season publicly, and he has chastised the team when it has tried to use that as an excuse, too.

Honestly, though, after the way the NBA handled that tip situation, they should expect some complaining. They didn't make a call, then said that they told the PA announcer and then verified the call, and the PA announcer said he wasn't told a darned thing. They screwed up there -- not necessarily on the call, which I think was really hard to judge -- but in trying to spin how it was handled. Just don't try to spin things, and the conspiracy theories won't blow up in your face. The fact that it came the game after the opponent had won on the Magic's home court because of a foul call in the last 30 seconds and then the refs swallowed their whistles when the exact same foul was made on the opposite end made it just more glaring. (And also the fact that one of the officials in that game went to the same high school as one of the opponents' stars.)

Those individual things might not point to much, but added together, it makes people start questioning stuff. Seriously, NBA TV used to do a weekly segment with Ronnie Nunn (the head of officials) that talked about what calls were made and why. I think on that Midnight Magic show, they should have Ronnie Nunn on to go over the videotape of that tip play and also the end of that Nets game and explain why the calls were made the way they were. Maybe show us some tapes of why other teams' wing players are getting foul calls when they drive to the hoop and the Magic players are either getting called for offensive fouls or there is no call at all.

I usually never blame the refs unless its really bad...but the past 2 weeks have been horrible. I stopped watching the entire games..I just watch the last few minutes if its a close one only to see how many times the refs dont call the games properly.

I'm not going to anymore magic games until this is settled. That is all.

Yes, the next time a ref gets a call wrong that costs us a win, we'll be sure not to get upset about it because Ascheier says we're ignorant. I swear, if a fan from another team started a thread in Detroit's forum every time they complained about the refs, you'd have the most active forum on the network. So the next time you feel like painting an entire fan base with the same brush just because a few people are upset about the officiating, go find 35 cents and call someone who gives a crap.

I imagine watching Sheed makes you vomit then......

For someone who hates bias against refs so much that you had to create an account for the sole purpose of telling us to grow up, it's ironic that you're a fan of a team that complains after every whistle that goes against them....

Damn kid, you just dunked on by Rick Roll

The bottom line is that officiating is ALWAYS uneven.

And this is at EVERY level of basketball, all the way down to the YMCA.
Basketball is driven by three principles:

1) Movement 2) Application of fundamentals 3) Predictability

Detroit. And I'm pretty sure we lost by 25 or whatever because of bad officiating. I'm so sick of the NBA! How can my team lose a game?
