Gilbert Arenas this summer?

Post#1 » by K.S » Mon Jan 14, 2008 2:57 pm

http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archi ... is_summer/

Arenas says he will opt out at the end of the seasons and the wizards are his top option but he is willing to go eleswhere. And...the Raptors need a second scorer and Arenas always seems to talk about he Raptors ala Calderon nd Moon...so why not spend some money nd bring in one of the best scorers in the game today? give him 14 15 million who cares? the guy can produce, Arenas/Bosh = Championship, and Arenas can be the 2 guard alongside Calderon or Ford. just think about itt.......

PG: Ford
SG: Arenas
SF: Moon
PF: Bosh
C: Bargnani?

who gon stop us??

GET IT ON BC!!!!!!!

Lets see.

1) Gilbert is a 2nd tier Star.

2) He will make max $$$$

3) He is a constant headache

Gilbert is a Knick!

If we had the cash...yes I'd be for it, but unfortunately we don't.
Go for Dwade in a couple years though maybe? haha

If the Wizards know they won't be able to retain his services, or feel that he's not worth the contract that he's demanding. We could very well work out a sign-and-trade with them. One of the PG's, maybe a 1st Rounder and an expiring like Garbo or something should do the trick.

They need a big man, sign and trade Arenas for Bargs and Rasho's expiring deal :-)

We can even include TJ in a bigger deal...

If he was willing to play the two and play defence I would definitely be interested in him and have mentioned him before. The guy is a big nerd, sort of like our best player, and has some serious swagger. With TJ/Jose attacking from one wing and Gilbert attacking from another, the offence would be extremely dynamic. We have a post presence, now we need stronger guard play.

But some moves would need to me made in order to free up space, or like what was said above, a S&T would need to be done.

i always assumed that people were joking when they say

GIT 'ER DONE

or various forms of that quote.

but then, for laughs, i will listen to call-in shows on the Fan 590 or the Leafs' post-game show, and i am shocked and humoured to hear that a large segment of Toronto's male population actually uses the term GIT 'ER DONE as part of their daily.

Refrain from insults please.

If he is a 2nd tier star, what does that make Bosh a 4th tier? He is purely one of the most dominant players in the league.

Lets say if Toronto becomes real good this year and the Wiz's realize that they could be a good playoff team with a better "point guard" and the way Jamison and Butler are playing right now, they might go for a Sign and trade if someone offers Arenas a better opportunity and good money.. If they do, why not facilitate a sing and trade. Assuming TJ gets healthy enough, and Bargz does eventually develop a bit better by the end of the year, I would do TJ + Bargz + Joey G's expiring.

OT - Arenas Says He Will Opt Out This Summer

Post#16 » by Luv 4 da game » Mon Jan 14, 2008 4:35 pm

On wiretap :

The Boston Globe -
Gilbert Arenas said Sunday that he plans on opting out of his contract after this season. He said the Wizards are his top option but he is willing to go elsewhere.

"I want a new contract for the longevity of it and get another six years at the end of this deal," said Arenas, who is making $11.9 million this season. "I don't know what's going to happen. I could have signed an extension this year, but it wasn't going to make sense for me. If my own team doesn't take me, I'll go somewhere for a lot less to win a championship."

Arenas said his contract situation wouldn't deter him from returning this season, but he said he won't play until he's 100 percent.

I didn't really except this from him.

Do you believe its just a smokes screen or he will actually go with this ?

I think Arenas addresses the major needs for this team:

#1 rebounding
#2 interior toughness and defence
#3 solid character guy

and we have a ton of money in cap space next year ... I see no reason not to

The wiz will never let Gil go for nothing, so who cares about cap space. We have a big fat expiring contract this offseason, 2 young top10 PGs and a 22 year old 7 footer former 1st overall and a 1st pick coming.

So we sure are assets to offer the Wiz in a sign and trade if Gil wants to leave and BC is really interested. The guy is still under 25, he loves Jose and could be the go-to-guy we need next to Bosh.

BC should follow this situation closely. We have noone who can create for himself other than TJ who is barely 6feet.
