Gasol to Chicago again, with LAL

Post#1 » by giberish » Mon Jan 14, 2008 5:26 am

Yet another Gasol deal. I think he's the best player likely to be dealt. Chicago seems a likely destination as they have the need, and some tradeable assets. The BYC status of Hinrich and Nocioni makes the salary matching more difficult unless Wallace is included - but then you have to find a home for Wallace. Also, with Navarro likely tagging along with Pau, Gordon is almost certainly out of Chicago but I'm not sure he's a great fit for Memphis (either style or salary wise). This is my attempt to deal with these issues.

Chicago Incoming Players
Juan Carlos Navarro, Brian Cardinal, Pau Gasol, Sasha Vujacic
Chicago Outgoing Players
Joakim Noah, Ben Gordon, Ben Wallace, 1st round pick (08?,09?)

Chicago gets their interior offensive option in Gasol without really gutting their team. Navarro replaces Gordon in the reserve scoring guard role. Their post rotation is shortened but they have enough depth that isn't a problem. Noah might have to be replaced with Thomas to make the deal happen.

Memphis Incoming Players
Joakim Noah, Javaris Crittenton, Vladimir Radmanovic, Kwame Brown, 2 1st round picks
Memphis Outgoing Players
Juan Carlos Navarro, Brian Cardinal, Pau Gasol

Memphis gets a 1st for Navarro and Noah, Critt, an EC and a 1st for Gasol. Radman is even a talent and fit upgrade over Cardinal. They may even get Thomas in place of Noah.

L.A. Lakers Incoming Players
Ben Gordon, Ben Wallace
L.A. Lakers Outgoing Players
Javaris Crittenton, Sasha Vujacic, Vladimir Radmanovic, Kwame Brown, 1st round pick (08?09?)

The Lakers get a significant talent upgrade as they realize their team actually could go deep into the playoffs. The Lakers do take on alot of salary, and while Phil Jackson prefers lineups that are tall for their positions, this leaves them often playing Gordon at SG with Kobe at SF. Still, the talent upgrade is likely enough to overcome the downsides for them.

This is not good for Memphis, it's horrible........

They lose the best player in the deal and get garbage in return........
