C-Webb back in 2 weeks/considering 3 teams

Post#1 » by P2 » Mon Jan 14, 2008 4:00 pm

But in an exclusive interview Sunday, Webber told News10's Bryan May that he will sign with a new club and be back on the court in a matter of days.

"I'll be back in two weeks playing basketball," Webber said.

Webber said he hadn't made any firm decision on where he would resume his NBA career, but the 16-year veteran said he had fielded offers from several NBA clubs and had narrowed his choices down to three teams. Webber declined to name the teams he was considering.

Which teams that are interested in him do you think he is considering? With what he's got, he could definitely help the Celtics.

Don't forget the Rockets IMO.
I think he would be tempted to play again for Adelman.

With Bynum down, the Lakers could use Webber.

That's right, but the question is which 3 teams he is currently choosing from.

It could be the Lakers as well. we could bring Odom off the bench with the second unit. Odom plays very well without Kobe on the floor. We could start with Fisher, Bryant, Ariza, Webber, and Bynum. The Second unit would be Farmar, Crittenton, Walton, Odom or Radmanovic, Brown, or Mihm.

SF:Ariza/Walton/Radmanovic
PF:Webber/Odom
C:Bynum/Brown/Mihm
SG:Bryant/Vujacic/Crittenton
PG:Fisher/Farmar

Orlando would be willing to give him starting minutes now, so we might be in the running.

nah
Houston is not going to win more game with Webber
might as well give the playing time to Scola and Landry
it's better to let those two grow and become more effective in the future

Lakers (he'd just add more to their offense and depth with his passing, smarts, and shooting. Be quite weird seeing him in a Lakers uni... and playing against the Kings multiple times.)

Pistons

Celtics (they need another veteran big man, and aside from the quality of the team and playoff destination, friends KG and Pollard are there)

Rockets? I don't think there's quite enough there overall. Wouldn't rule it out, though.

Don't think Dallas anymore, because of Bass.

Lakers have a open roster spot and Brian Shaw, an assistant coach with the team has been talking to Webber since the off season to play a season here and now that we do have a winning record and considering Webber could still be a threat in the tri offense, there's a good chance that he might sign.

Yeah, I'd like the Lakers team (in terms of watching them and what's being done) and playoff situation even more if Webber came on.

Elite team and a legit contender? Still no, of course. Some ways to go for both of those.

I dont think Detroit is one of them. He made his preference for Detroit clear early in the offseason. If we had been courting him something probably would have been worked out by now.

Lakers are a safe bet to be one of them, and I could see them being the favorites to land him. They came pretty close to getting him a year ago.

The Celtics might want him, too. And Orlando. I wouldnt be surprised if those were the 3.

If Webber signed with the Pistons, he would kill you more than he would help us. He would just take up Maxiell's minutes, which isn't a good thing to the team.

^Agreed. As much as we love C-Webb here in the D,we have no need for him. We'd have to waive somebody and I think he'd just kill what we've built this far in the season.

I agree with the Celts,Lakers,ORL

ORL has starter minutes to give him. Both the Celts and Lakes he'll probuly only get like 20 mpg.

But he has a better chance of winning it all with Boston and Los Angeles. Because Orlando will definitely not get any further than the East Semis (where they will meet either Boston or Detroit, because those 2 teams have the 2 best records locked up already).

agreed, and in LA wellll it's LA some place you want to spend the end of your carrer.

That said idk what Webber's thoughts are and getting starter minutes might be important to him. He may want to do half a season of 35 mpg, go to the playoffs and help lead a team to the ECF in ORL... then seek a 3 year guaranteed contract from some team before he retires or something.

Or maybe just leverage himself to a one year full MLE.

Well he's a big with range and a good passer, and he couldnt possibly defend any worse than the Magic starters do now. Starting wouldnt be a guarantee, but it wouldnt be like downgrading if they did start him.

i say that, because i cant see SVG messing with Turk/Shard/Howard...not unless it's a big change...which i dont know that Webber falls under...IDK...most likely Celts...it's where everyone wants to go...
