This kills me. My son is 7 and always asks me why the wolf doesn't kill everyone in the jeep. I have no explanation for him.

Alright, since this thread is still going strong I'll go ahead and post what I find to be the absolute worst commercial on television right now. The only channel I have ever seen it on is Food Network HD, so many of you might not be familiar with it. It is made even worse because Food Network HD is a relatively new channel that is lacking a wide variety of sponsors, so I am assuming that is the reason this piece of garbage will sometimes play three or four times an hour.

It's about a new girl at school trying to find a place to sit during lunch in the cafeteria. The annoying part of the commercial is the cliched responses that she receives from the "popular girls" who don't accept her when she attempts to sit with them. It is as if a 45-year-old ad writer sat down and thoughf, "hmmm, what do teenage kids sound like? They still say 'whatever!!', right?" If all else fails, make the mean teenage girls sound like valley girls - problem solved.

Plus the music SUCKS as well.

Because he is a singing wolf, made friendly due to the rapturous spell brought about by riding along in a Jeep Liberty singing along to mid-70's MOR rock.

Duh.

Since I'm at work, I watched it without the sound on. Looked like a lesbian love story to me. I dug it.

By the way, why does FoodNetwork (which I love) need an HD channel?

I don't pay attention to commercials but I know the ones you're talking about because they sponsor the Bulls. That's probably why we think they're over played, the kia one has a bulls logo at the end of the commercial.

The most effective advertising on me is using the program itself to advertise. That's pretty much like the Bulls. I watch the games and then when I go to the sporting goods store I buy a jersey. Saturday morning cartoons were the worst offenders of this. Captain Lou making me play the damn mario games because he was "doing the mario" at the end of every show.

This, along with its several siblings, is the worst commercial on TV.

You REALLY need to watch it when you get home and hear the commercial as that really is the worst part, or best part if you're a masochist.

As far as Food Network HD... how could you not want to see Giada in high-def? OK, I guess that isn't all that special, but still, it is high-def! Almost everything is better in HD, and the channel has different programming than the regular FN. We're talking twice the amount of episodes of Good Eats per day here.

Holy Christ! I have never seen that or any of its siblings before. That was awful.

Oh, and after having spent years working in kitchens, I can tell you that no one picks up a stock pot full of boiling liquid and carries it near their face - and just for that reason.

WHAT THE **** WAS THAT ALL ABOUT???? What is the purpose of that advertisement? Is it even real?

EDIT: I did some research and now know the purpose and that, yes, they are real.

Scott, you win. Worst ads ever. I don't consider myself a prude or faint of heart at all. But that is just flat out unnecessary and wrong, regardless of the point they are trying to get across.

Children watch TV, too. Even in Canada, I'd wager. That is the type of unexpected violence and horror that can seriously mess with a kid's mind.

I threw up a little bit in my mouth when they flashed to her "post-accident".

That was seriously screwed up.

I shudder to think what the "sibling" commercials are. Do they play them during Saturday morning cartoons - because that would be great.

They're real. They are from a Canadian (or maybe it's just Ontario) workplace safety campaign. The website for the campaign is prevent-it.ca if you'd like to learn more.

Make sure to find the one with the forklift and the one with the welder. And for God's sake, be careful.

Edit: Here are the other 4 ads. There are also a lot of hilarious spoof ads on YouTube.

Good God. Those commercials should at least be rated R for graphic violence and disturbing images.

How did you happen to come across those, Scott?

I edited my post above. I checked out their website and some other stuff (including some of the other vids). I understand the point they are trying to make, but this is just gratuitous and sick.

That's the truly astonishing thing -- these are *targeted* for children/teens! They are restricted from showing these earlier than 8:00 at night, but beyond that, they are supposedly airing these during the highest rated shows when families are watching.

I know that accidents in the workplace are a huge, expensive problem, but I agree that these are cartoonishly over the top and probably won't do anything to create a solution.

Someone forwarded the kitchen one to Deadspin a couple of months ago. Today was the first time I'd seen the electrocution one, so there may be more spots in the works (genital disfigurement seems an obvious candidate, e.g.).
