I won't be upset about Amir not playing until after the deadline... playing them now may actually lead to more PT for Amir later.
This.
If we want to package a deal at the trade deadline, we need to play these guys in order to hopefully gain some leverage. People aren't going to want to take on the Pistons 11th and 12th players. However, if they look like they're actually cracking the Piston rotation, teams may be interested in them.

This should tell you something; Nazr replaces Ben and he looks like a scrub. He replaces Brezec and he looks like an All-Star.
Brezec is a scrub and has been around long enough for everybody to know that. He's in a new system, in a reduced role and can't play. His value is as an expiring and that's all it's ever going to be.
Similarly if you are looking for Hermann to somehow improve his stock you are outa luck. If you are trying to sell him as anything other than an expiring you are touting what he did LAST year because there is NO way anything he does as a Piston will even remotely come close to that.

I agree
As was mentioned earlier, the guy the Pistons really need to go after is Kurt Thomas. What's his contract look like?

They are holding out first rouder and expirings. I say lets give in and give em our late pick. Thomas is everything we need. He would be a better starting option than Mcdyess and would be far better for this team than Webb would be.

I didn't expect much at all from them and they're worse than I thought.
As mentioned above, neither of them are even adequate on the boards.
Hermann can be in perfect position for a rebound which all but has his name on it and he still won't come up with the rebound. He might be the worst rebounding big man in the NBA.

Herrmann's rebound rate was decent (if not great) when he was with Charlotte. We have a good enough sample size... he's played only 57 minutes total, after all. Brezec has been Sheed-like, ok not great, as a rebounder. His 17 rebounds in 79 minutes doesn't suck and is consistent with his performance on other teams.

I'm on record saying I'd pay the first rounder + expirings for Kurt Thomas rental, but only after we got confirmation that PJ Brown wasn't interested in the posibility of signing with us for the second half of the season.
I mean if you give Rasheed 30 minutes a game and limit Dice and Maxey to 25 each, that leaves you 16 minutes for our fourth big off the bench without really disrupting anything.

Rip Hamilton is a stain on the Pistons franchise.

^I initially didn't like that idea at all....and it still leaves a sour taste in my mouth....but it sounds better than it once did. Mostly just because we have absolutely NOTHING behind Sheed, Dice & Maxiell at the moment.
We clearly need to make some sort of deal before the deadline, and I'm sure we will. I think CWebb is sorta our fallback plan at the moment; like if we can't get the sort of player we really want then he's better than Brezec. That's assuming he'd still be available...which he may not. We'll see.

If they're going to use Brezec, and apparently they are,at least use him correctly. Say what you want about the man he is a skilled offensive player, maybe even our best low post threat after Rasheed (and we don't see him down low nearly enough). Run some post up plays for him. He's 7'1" with skills that command a double team. Right now all they use him for are hustle plays and get your own garbage points.

I've never seen anything from Brezec to make me think he had any sort of a post game. As far as I can tell his offense pretty much consists of a 8-10 ft jumper and that's about it.Tap Tap the Chiseler wrote:If they're going to use Brezec, and apparently they are,at least use him correctly. I like the idea of getting Kurt Thomas a lot. However I scoff at the idea of giving up a first round pick. Joe has the propensity to pick up talented players late in the first round - Maxiell, Tay, Afflalo, Stuckey, and even Delfino come to mind. And these players will be around, obviously, for several years. Kurt Thomas is an older veteran who may only stick around for the end of the year, and play around 25 mpg. I don't think he can have near the impact that Sheed did on the team when he came in mid-season. From Seattle's standpoint, he's definitely leaving at the end of the year so they are in no position to demand a first round pick, they need to take what they can get for him. And they might as well take a look at Fabio and Primo, with Flip Murray in the deal and a 2nd rounder or two.
