worked out deal with minny
I've had a trade posted, and with several adjustments, I think I have a deal to dump ben
Bulls send Wallace, VK and our pick this year (top 10 protection-or 12) to minny/send duhon to a third team in need (I said GS for TE)
3rd team sends something (expiring, 2nd rounder) to minny
minny sends theo, walker, jaric to bulls
We get:
Rid of Ben. Sad that our cap space from last year has become such a negative, but we have to face facts.
minutes for Noah and gray
rid of duhon-he's hurting us
jaric-a long deal, but can play the 1,2,3-I think a perfect 3rd guard with kirk and ben
theo's expiring-and i believe he could even help us once and a while (or we deal his expiring away)
THE BAD
getting walker-but he's an expiring next year and would become our best low post scorer (sad, isn't it?)
losing the pick. however, if we continue to suck we keep it. If we get better and it's not a top 10 pick, we don't need it.
kirk/ben/thabo
jaric/ben/thabo
deng/noc/thabo
smith/thomas/noc
noah/gray/theo
if we do this soon, we would have theo's expiring for the deadline, but not our pick to include

Why would a rebuilding team like Minny want to take Wallace's contract on board? Considering all that's happened already here, not even his shorter contract (when compared to Jaric and Walker) would help.
Walker and Jaric would be on the books till 2011, taking up over $18M between the two.getting walker-but he's an expiring next year and would become our best low post scorer (sad, isn't it?)

FWIW, the deal is running about 2/3 approve, 1/3 disapprove on the MIN boards, if the pick was Top 5 protected.
Financially, the deal doesn't cost MIN a lot of money -- more likely delays it. Yes, Jaric and Walker are both far more tradable than Ben Wallace, but if Wallace can do anything, he could pair well with Al Jefferson.
I needed to add Adrian Griffin for salary matching, but the salaries break down like this (apologies for the formatting):
Antoine Walker $8,329,640 $9,052,460
Theo Ratliff $11,666,666
Marko Jaric $6,050,000 $6,575,000 $7,100,000 $7,625,000
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
26.0 15.6 7.1 7.6
Ben Wallace $15,500,000 $14,500,000 $14,000,000
Chris Duhon $3,248,000
Adrian Griffin $1,593,000 $1,711,000
pick $2,535,720 $2,725,920 $2,916,120 $3,703,472
Viktor Khryapa $1,928,598 ($2,792,609)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
24.7 18.9 16.9 3.7
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
+1.3 -3.3 -9.8 +3.7 = -8.1 - (3.1ish) = $5 mil
In general, assuming the Wolves don't extend Khryapa, the deal costs MIN $8.1 mil. Its likely Duhon could go to GSW for the TPE (or to ORL with Griffin for Garrity's expiring), MIN gets it down to about $5 mil, and as you can see, that salary is going to pay for the pick. This deal doesn't destroy MIN financially. It can more readily be described as delaying free agency speculation a year.
Personally, I think its a "yes" for MIN (depending on the protection on the pick), and a "maybe" for CHI, depending on how much value the Bulls place on the benefits dflaschberger listed:
1. Get rid of Ben's bad contract
2. Get minutes for Noah and Gray
3. Move Duhon
4. Usefulness/flexibility of Jaric
and I'd add ..
5. Whatever usefullness you can get out of hometown Antoine Walker this year, and his trade value this summer as a $9 mil expiring.
PS -- CHI is only three games from making the play-offs, making the pick 15+

That weren't luck. That were judgement. Kevin McHale actually worked to a plan last offseason, managing to set himself ina position where all the bad contracts except for Jaric (who he couldn't shift) and Madsen (irrelevant) were gone by 2009. Even Greg Buckner has only one and a fraction million guaranteed at the end of his deal. It was all planned.
Trading for Ben Wallace puts the right s**ts up tha tplan. And for what? Ben Wallace and a meh pick? Nah.
if Wallace can do anything, he could pair well with Al Jefferson.
This is where it unravels for Minnesota.

The pick would need to be only top-5. Anything heavier and it has no interest on the MN board. Also the future consideration would need to be discussed also.
Another trade popped up between our clubs involving Noah.
Expiring (Gerald Green?) and the Miami pick next year for Noah. We could even throw a 2nd (which would be early round) to make it sweet. There seems to be issues with Noah in chicago. But in Minnesota he is next to a strong post scorer as well as with friends from college (Richard, Brewer) I think it would help both teams. The Miami pick is lotto protected this year, but top 10 next, top6 and then unprotected.
