'Zo Retires

On Wiretap:

Miami Heat center Alonzo Mourning, out since December 19 with a torn patella tendon in his right knee and a torn quadriceps in the same leg, said in an interview with the team website Monday that he has decided to retire.

Props to one of my most favorite players ever. Him and LJ in Charlotte was amazing.

I'm glad Zo had a good comeback... playing the game and getting that ring is all that mattered with that. Especially in the way that he won it. I don't think his last two seasons of play lessens anything.

He just had a fantastic career, played with a unique passion, being one of the best two-way players of all-time - and is one of the most inspirtational and good guys, from all that I've gathered, the NBA has had. I grew up liking him a lot back with the Hornets as well, and is one of my favorite players of all-time.

I think he'll probably be one of the ambassadors of the league, like Magic, Dominique, Clyde Drexler, Bill Russell, etc.

Toronto always knew he wouldn't play there. They chose to take him, anyways.

I'm tired of listening to haters whining about Toronto. They knew what was going to happen before it happened...

So that makes it ok? The guy was under contract, he chose to not play for Toronto. He screwed two teams, the Nets gave him a chance, and he screwed them over as well, so he could play for a contender.

What an amazing career and what a sad way to see it end. Zo is a HOF for sure. He had a great career, one of the most intense players I have ever seened. Just hopes he get his right do's

One thing for sure is, that everyone and their 2nd mother knew Zo was NOT going to play in Toronto.

Considering the NBA is a business like any other in the world and they do things in the best of their interests, so do the players (employees.) -- Everyone knew Zo left Miami to sign w/a contender at the time in NJ, but a year later, they changed the face/type of that franchise and went the other way. They also traded Zo to Toronto where everyone knew he wasn't going to play nor report, given his condition and the requirements he had set forth when he signed with NJ.

Anybody who was/is still bitter over Toronto, is just silly. I didn't blame Zo, it was understandable, and not surprising.

What he did was wrong . If he was to sick to play for Toronto then he should had forfeited his money that he was owed to them .

Exactly, he was just going to sit at home and pretend to be sick, and collect the money. If he didn't want to play for Toronto, he should've gave up his money, instead he collected the money, and signed with the Heat. People are excusing what he did, saying the Raps knew. That doesn't matter he should honour is contract if he was healthy to play.

he was "too sick" to play in NJ, he was then "too sick" to play for Toronto, but as soon as he can play for the heat, after taking tornoto's money, he's suddenly not too sick anymore.

Anyone who did that to an employer they were under contract with in the real world would go to jail.

Yeah it is a pretty big COP out for people on here to say "Well, Toronto and everyone else knew he wouldn't report" That is just a punk move.

Fine you don't want to play for Toronto or New Jersey, than The Contract is gone, and then you can go find another team.

If I was Toronto, i would have let him sit on the bench for the entire contract.

As far as I am concerned Zo is a self centred, THIEF.

Hes pathetic... Thats all there is to it.

Babcock lacked the balls to do such a thing in the 1st place.

He KNEW Zo was coming there for salary purposes only, and something would need to be worked out, and it did....
