To the D-league? If it happened would the GM be prepping himself for a media outlash?

doubt, it since a team with number 1 pick usually needs the pick to come in and play. Only situation i can see that happening is if a team with the star injured picks the BPA (SA comes to mind) or if a playoff team gets a pick from another team (chicago?)

i dont think so, the d-league has only started a few years ago.

you mean Andrea Bargnani? lol. the hate is slipping into the general board!

in all seriousness, since the d league is fairly new, I'd say no. i think you know the answer though. just look at the last 5 or so number one picks. not all are LBJ level, but most have looked decent.

But Kwame and Olowakandi would've been.

He has been playing 15 minute games lately.....

Notice how when Sam Mitchell gives him 25+ minutes he will score 15 points or more?

Silly Raptor fan! I didn't mention any names, I thought the D-League was around for a while my mistake.

While on the topic of Bargnani (you brought it up!) what if he got demoted to the D-league?

Would that be bad PR on Colangelo's part? Contradicing his statements perhaps?

yeah, i'm the silly raptor fan. it couldn't possibly be you!

if that happened to bargs, it wouldn't look great, but since this team looks to make the playoffs again, BC will be fine.

draft picks are really about luck. who knew brandon roy would be the best player out of that draft?

to add more to this topic - this is sooo not Mitchell's fault. if bargs can't rebound with his size, its on him.

i bet moon has a higher career total for rebounds in one night! no wait that isn't a diss. moon ca rebound really well for a sf. i bet curry has!

Sadly, I think Andrea would struggle in the D-League too. He'd get schooled by guys like Randy Livingston and Andre Barrett.

The D-League would be perfect for Bargnani. It would be an excellent way for him to restore his confidence, I actually think because of that Marcus Williams could use a bit of d-league play as well.

Ummm...not always. If you draft on "potential" then yes it's a crap shoot but when you draft on older college players with experience and a solid track record in pressure situations it's not so big of a risk.

Brandon Roy was widely considered the most NBA ready player in that draft and has not dissapointed.

On the flip side, he could stink it out there which in turn ruins him in the long run.

Forgetting that that's inverted logic, and forgetting that defense, rebounding, and actually trying also come into it, let's examine your premise at face value:

Bargnani has had 14 games this season where he got 25+ minutes.

In exactly 7 of them, he attained the 15 point mark.

In 5, he actually got more than 5 rebounds, playing center.

every wonder why players who stayed in college all 4 years, get drafted near the end of the first round or the second round. there is this perception that if that player was any good, he'd declare after his first or second season. and its usually trure.

and honestly, who thought brandon would be the best, at least so far from that draft?

it wasn't this loaded draft either so....it could have been anybody.
you never really know what you are getting unless its a lebron/tim duncan/shaq type of player who everyone knows is a consensus number 1 pick...and andrea definitely was not that!

how many older guys have you seen get drafted number 1 overall other than tim duncan? those guys are extremely rare. what makes a great gm is the team he puts together. if BC's decision in getting Andrea wasn't the best, but he still finds a way to put a good team together than all is fine.

some teams go through years of tanking/drafting and have all these high picks and go nowhere. thats why i think in many ways drafting, beyond scouting to find the next "it" star is luck. players can turn out to be a star or a bust.

Randy Foye should play a few games in the D-league to get back into game shape.
