If there was no salary cap....
With players like Rashard making max dollars it becomes difficult to identify the best players when only looking at salaries.
If there were no salary cap and no salary restrictions who would be the highest paid player.
Contenders
Lebron - Young as hell and puts up insane numbers. Big following with the kids and would fill up any arena quickly. He also says he wants be the first billionaire athelete. I could see him fetching annual estimates in the 30-35 mil range.
Bryant - Big game and even bigger ego. Would want to be in at least the top 3 highest paid players. I'm going with single season estimates of 30- 32.5 million if Rashard is getting something close to 20.
KG - has never turned down a contract opportunity and is largely responsible for the creation of the salary cap and max contracts. Aging but I still feel with his skill level and intensity he could get a team to bite the bill at ~30mil.
Yao - has a big market following and any of the major market teams would be willing to pay him large sums in trade for access into the China Somewhere in the 27.5-30 mil range.
TD - ya he's willing to sacrifice dollars for team financial flexibility but with no salary cap I'm sure SA would have to offer at least 25 mil just to avoid other teams enticing him with outrageous offers.
Dwight - Raw as hell but is still putting up insane numbers. Still hans't reached his full potential. He would be in my estimate in the 27.5-32.5 mil.

With james dolan in charge Mike Dunleavy jr would get a bigger contract than A-Rod.

Must be true, if it's a rumor you read on Hoopshype.

Rashard Lewis...
Not sure off hand really because its not just about the player, alot of it would be the situation at the time and it would definatly change how contract negotations and alot of other factors being played out etc..
I'd say probably Kobe Bryant.
I'd also think that some of those players wouldnt be on the teams they are now. It would be alot more like football [soccer] where certain teams dominate the player pools so to speak. Probably see Lebron, Kobe and Duncan all on the same team or something similar. Big market teams would dominate the cash and would be able to just lure players in with thier succeess/cash.

i would say lebron, just look at what he did last night!
If there was no salary cap in the nba than portland would be the yankees of the nba with about 20 championship rings and there starting five would be...
Chris Paul
Brandon Roy
Lebron James
Carlos Boozer
Dwight Howard
with Oden, Kobe and B-Davis comin off the bench.
Thanks Paul Allen for having a gazillion dollars!
