Whoa without Grant Hill we look average

Post#1 » by 13-32 » Wed Jan 16, 2008 5:51 am

The lack of firepower in the 2nd unit without Hill is horrible

Barbosa
Bell
Marion
Diaw
Skinner

Just lacks the ball movement and play-making and there isn't really any thing they focus the offense around(Should be Diaw but ya)

NO this isn't a sky is falling thread but still is a bit of a sign of concern in the next few weeks.

no grant hill reduces us to the team we were last year when nash was on the bench...although banks could improve and drastically upgrade our overall bench play.

Get er done Steve.
If it takes the ATL pick to get us TT and Cassell, do it.

Please give Dj Strawberry a chance to handle the ball and put on Marks (he could be "the matt bonner of the suns") and we really should make a trade if we want to be a championship contender... Diaw, Banks can all go.... if we get a decent inside scorer.

By the way: Leandro seems to be in a slump, he's not playing well either... :o

The only positive thing to say for this loss is that Amare got 22 shots tonight and he seemed to have his quickness (and I mean the 04-05 quickness of him) back. He missed the whole training camp and pre-season so he started the season slow, I think he's in for a big 2nd half of the season.

See, Frank, it's not very hard ;)

Again, I don't think DJ is ready. I'm sure if we traded Banks away and gave their minutes to DJ, we'd be totally screwed. And that's not taking anything away from DJ, but come on, he's not going to give what they do, even when they're off. Not yet. Coach see these guys everyday in practice, he knows them better than we do. If he thinks he can contribute, he will play (see Banks).

LB has completely regressed from last year...I'm not sure 'regress' is the word to use because he has shown that he is still capable of putting up good games, but he lacks the consistency. He had put up stinkers after stinkers and is killing the offense with the 2nd unit more than helping. If he isn't scoring for us coming off the bench, we're in deep trouble. Especially now with Hill out, he needs to step up.

Okay, maybe Dj is not ready but I think Banks is not a good player for Phoenix. Dj still has lots of work to do, but he definitly is a good defender. You made the right point, we have no bench who scores points at a consistent basis. Lb and Boris need to pick up their games or otherwise we are in deep trouble cause I don't believe Banks can be our spark of the bench.
I still believe we should inform with other teams for possible trades, cause this team is not gonna get the job done.
If you see the draftpicks we took, we could have done better than Tucker

Most normal teams will beat the good teams once in four tries (and NY beat Detroit in a blowout); we beat the bejeezus out of the Clippers the other 3 times.

Meh, I'm still pretty sure we (along with SA, Dallas, and a few others) will kick it up a notch after the all-star break. Bell, Barbosa, Marion, Diaw have all been mentioned as going through motions or being injured (or both). This is also why we lost this game: Suns came out strong, beat 'em down and forgot the game still lasted 4 quarters.

Take Detroit for example: they've been talking about how Boston's resurgence inspired them to play better ball. We've been half-assing it and are still in a 4- or 5-way tie for the top seed in the brutal West, where a good team like Houston has a winning record, and yet is 3 games out of the playoffs (by contrast, Indiana is 2 games out with a 17-22 record; NJ has a losing record for the 8th seed).

LA, on the other hand, seems to me like they are doing what the Suns did last season: peaking early. After a lot of time being seen as also-rans in the Western Conference, I can picture them (particularly the coach and one certain player) getting cocky enough not to take Dallas, SA, and Phoenix seriously.

I'm not panicking yet, but the one thing I am majorly concerned about is our rebounding...people say that we don't play good defense. That's true, but the problem is exacerbated by the 2nd and 3rd chance opportunities that opposing teams get when they play the Suns.

It's easy to look at our record and use that as a reason to ignore problems. But anyone who's been watching games this season can feel that we're missing something. I think this team has enough talent, it's the overall consistent team defense thats a joke. And we all know our defense is all about energy and effort, that's what's missing. This team lacks the singular focus, dedication and toughness to play consistent defense. I don't think trading for a defensive big will all of the sudden solve our problem, it's on the guys, it's on the team, it's on the coaching staff to address the problem and take action. This team is in good standing right now, and probably more than anything, just needs a tweak here and there.

I really don't think we're desperate to make a move or should make a move. Is SA in looking to make a move with their recent play? Like I said, teams had caught up, and teams like SA, Dallas and Phoenix really had not improved much over the past years. You can easily tell by just looking at the West standing. We just lost a starter for 2-3 weeks and are looking for other guys to step up and contribute. Its not as bad as it seems. LB and Boris just hasn't step up their play in the absent of Hill, that's the frustrating part.

dantoni is a complete fool with his 3 guard line-ups, nash raja and barbosa doesnt work, barbosa bell banks doesnt work, what is he trying to accomplish by this?

has anyone seen the real brian skinner lately, the one that was blocking and rebounding like a madman, now it seems hes fallin in love with scoring the ball from the outside, give me a freakin break, that is this team problem, everyone wants to be a freakin scorer! grab some fing rebounds and play DEFENSE!

it seems that everyone is trying to score points, i think dantoni has gotten in everyone heads that if you dont shoot the ball your going to the bench! so everyone is trying to score, even barbosa, he thinks that when he is in the game, his only focus is to score, its NOT! please guard someone for a change, i think he leads the league in giving and-1s to people, every time he trys to play defense he cheats and gets caught with a ticky tack foul on an and-1, everyone is a shooter from banks to barbosa to bell, no one is willing to get assists anymore, nash cannot do it all by himself, thats why we dont have a chance in the playoffs, we dont defend, rebound or play as a full team.

^ i dont know if skinner is the answer, i like him in spurts, but i really dont see him as a starting quality big at this stage of his career

if we could get a big like PJ, or Gasol etc to play C, cool, i just dont think 30mpg to skinner will help
