Giving Bargnani 5 years...
When did this quote start being used? Who said it? Was it BC?
It kind of makes sense, but at the same time it doesn't. It would make sense if Bargs was like 19 or 20, but the guy is born in 1985. Same age as LaMarcus and only a year younger than Roy. I guess it could be the whole comig over from Europe thing, but I don't think that's a downgrade from the NCAA.
Hopefully Bargs can bounce back from this. I don't know what to think right now.

It was said right around the time he was drafted and then repeated 20-50 times since, even when he was playing well last year...
Dude it all came down to B.C deciding that Bargnani's potential was enough for him to be taken over the rest...it was said most of the other rookies would be better but in 5 years he thinks Bargnani will be the best of that class

It's more about him developing as a wing player, growing late, and now being asked to play C in the NBA.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

Its just hard for us becuase last year Bargs was very key for us, and he was even better in the playoffs, so many of us thought he'd be that way this entire year or even better.
As well last year, he was the 2nd best rookie for sure. Now he's in value wise in the top 3 in the rookies, but how he's playing right now he's probably not even in the top 15 playing wise.
Its just hard to see other players who we could of drafted playing better than him. I haven't given up and I'm a bargnani supported, but he's even frustrating me right now. But i do think this is a write off year and that he'll bounce back next year.

It was said by BC but even while there's some part of him that may believe that, when Andreas contract comes up and his agent is calling for a deal do you think BC is going to wait another years or two before evaluating, I don't.
That being said. The people who get hurt the most by burying the kid to early are the fans of the team that want to see the team improve. The irony is that's where the frustration comes from.

The 5 Years thing is a joke... I'm sorry but to say that u shouldn't judge Bargs until 5 years elapses is very very stupid. It's not a bad tactic to use against people who don't know anything and will just believe everything BC says. Everyone screws up... I don't see how it's such a hard thing to face. I still wouldn't want any other GM in the NBA but he needs to take heat for screwing up the draft. It could set us back a little while. Regardless, people need to chill and not expect a championship contender overnight. BC has until the 2009-2010 season to either win me over or make me hate his guts since the '09 offseason is the time where we're suppose to get that player who's gonna put us over the top.

He's played small forward his entire life. He need to learn how to play center in the NBA. I remember whenever anyone took a big in the draft they always said it takes a big 3-5 years to learn how to play in the NBA and a small takes 2-3 years.
He'll be great and we just need to give hime time to develop. Dirk was in the same boat, but look at him now.

Hey Duncan...do you remember a couple weeks back when Bargnani kicked your ass on the court and basically won us the game...do you remember that?

As a Bargs fan, I'll still say there's now way anyone can smack talk using Bargs with the crappy play he's exhibited so far, least of which in comparison to Duncan. I wouldn't even have the gull to smack talk a Brendon Haywood fan at this point.
I didn't compare him to Duncan, I said in no certain terms, he played very well against Duncan that game and influenced him enough that it changed the game in our favour

If any of you watched the BOS vs. WAS game the other day, the commentators made a similar comment about Brendan Haywood since he's having a career highs in his points and boards.
Just mentioned how most of the time, bigs need 4 or 5 years to develop their game.
With all you guys talking about trading Bargs, you will be sorry in a few years if it actually happens, I'm sure of it.

Huskies,
I know you didn't compare, but you used Bargs's prefomance to smack talk a Duncan fan. Given this year, does that not seem like asking for a e-beatdown to you? I jsut think at this point I wouldn't want to go there. When even the little victories have been so infrequent, I'd maybe avoid the smack talk until there's actually been more than one game to talk about.

Colangelo didn't say you suspend all comment or judgment for five years. He didn't say it will take Bargnani five years to become useful. He said you wait that long to see how much he has developed vis a vis expectations.
Along the way, there will be plenty of comments, good and bad, before a final assessment is made, either by BC or by another GM.
