could mp play himself out of the league?

i was a big mp fan early on in his career. i remember seeing him give fits to sam cassell, shut down michael redd, and even bother kobe a little. he was billed as a defensive stopper who was developing an outside shot.

well, he developed that shot well enough to net a few 20 point games here & there & that's enough for a guy to think he's an nba scorer. imo, his attempt at parlaying the bigger scoring average into bigger $ will fail him in the long run. he was lucky to have that qualifying offer on the table for him this year, otherwise, no one would've paid him his price.

how long will mp's nba career last? oddly, i think nellie's style will eventually fizzle out mp's career. he's a gimmick without a brain or a niche. he used to be on the radar as a very good defensive player.

He'll get picked up by someone next year or by trade this year. That's when his NBA career will really begin.

I remember watching him watching him in Summer League. There was one play where he went left and jammed it, leaving Kareem Rush in the dust. One thing JRich could never do... go left. Also remember him totally shutting down Stevie Franchise and thought he was going to be the next Michael Cooper. Come in to shut down a run and hit the open threes... didn't count on his basketball IQ being nonexistent. Oh well... hope he does good where ever he goes... whether it be here or somewhere else.

when petey gets rid of those bonehead travels and stepping out of bounds plays, he could potentially (and i can't emphasize enough on this huge "maybe") be one of those off-the-bench catch-and-shoot players, i.e. Michael Finley now (this is the best case scenario)

i agree that nellie may be too tough on mp, expecting him to rebound against big men and play the 4 sometimes. petey is really a 2, not even a 3...give him the ball at the right time and he will give you points. Just dont expect him to get 30

i'm also curious what happened to mp's defense. it used to be wayy better than now, where he's just trying to reach in every single time.

I wonder if the NBA rules allow us to paint a second set of out of bounds lines on the court, about 18 inches inside the real one. If we can do that, we might be able to raise Pietrus' value substantially.

When you usually are playing against someone who is 4 or 5 inches taller and about 50 pounds heavier, you have a tendency to reach a bit.

is there a reason why he always steps back near the 3 point line, its freaking maddening. he has to realize there's not much room there to start with, i don't get it

Mikey reverted tonight with the two stepback three out of bounds plays.

But he'll be in the League for a while. There are many worse players than him on NBA rosters right now.

But he also will never, ever be a star.

Pietrus is one more example of people here getting their hopes up based on a few rookie flashes - lockdown D baby, the French Michael Jordan!! - only to have those hopes come crashing down under the weight of the reality of their play.

But at least posters aren't blaming this guy's so obvious shortcomings on coaching and "development"... or are they?

Watch him take off when he gets somewhere else. As dumb as he is, he has just as much talent. He just needs someone to harness it. I can't blame Nellie for his situation, he just has had some bad luck with this team and I believe that his luck will change, but just not with the Warriors.
