Another JJ thread....

Post#1 » by magicfanejc42 » Wed Jan 16, 2008 8:51 pm

I don't understand how we can give up on JJ so quickly, everyone on this board is willing to trade him for ANYTHING... the man produces every time on the court for us, is a VERY smart ball player... I don't think I can think back on a game where he hasn't drawn a foul on a jumpshot....

He is a good passer and will always be that lights out shooter.

People are still riding him for that late game pass and some knuckle headed plays, but the guys confidence is down and he has very limited NBA experience... Even with low confidence and small PT number in the NBA he has helped us out of some defecits...

Last years SAS game- WITH BOWEN ON HIM...(16 BIG points)
Last years PHX game
This years Kings game

The guy has very good potential, and already has the capability to come out and drop at least 10 points a game if not more..

He may not be gifted defensively but he works his tail off and has the heart to do whatever it takes...

I have seen some clips of him in practice, and the kid works so hard it unbelivable.. He comes early, runs as hard as he can all practice and stays late... He spent all of his summer working harder than he ever has, and was competing for the starting spot...

I think other posters REALLY need to think about trading a guy like him... Do you guys still like the Ariza trade? I mean he is no allstar, but all we complain about is our lack of perimeter defense, hustle, and rebounding...All things he acceled at.. After this year Dooling is gone, Arroyo is gone, Bogans will probably opt out and Mo could be gone...Now if we trade JJ we would have no shooting guard...and our drafting skills aren't the best. If we as a fan base want any of our SG 's to be shopped it needs to be Evans,Dooling and Bogans NOT JJ.I hear all these Langdon comparisons, but I also have hear Landgon is NOT a high IQ player and was more of a chucker than one to know when it's time for him to shoot.. Maybe I am wrong.

I just KNOW that if JJ gets traded we will be like WTF?!! because we won't get a fair deal and he will turn out to be a good- great role player on some other team...As Ariza is turning out to be on one of the top teams in the West...

I am sure people will object to this, but I mean honestly, think to the future, and not now... We are going to have a situation this offseason, and We need to keep all the garunteed contracts we have...Plus he will be good.. He just needs a REAL chance..

I hope he comes in EVERY single minute Matt Carrol or the backup PG is in....He can torch them, and keep his man in front of him..

GO MAGIC!

FREEEEEEEEEE JJ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JJ won't play tonight. Carroll can own him one-on-one.

I agree 100% with you, JJ should see time. Its BS when SVG says he can't fit him in the rotation. JJ could easily get 10 mpg. he's too good of a shooter and a very smart ball player to give up on. when he does play I'd like to see him move around more and coming off screens like he did at Duke, instead of just standing behind 3pt line. and he's also a very FT shooter.

Bolded pt1: That may be the problem, he's never on the court, not much production going on. I think he can pbe productive for us but why not get something for him if he ain't gonna play anyways..

Bolded pt2: Let's trade JJ to the LA Ariza's..

That being said, I hope redick gets a true chance to show his what he can do.. Doubt it though..

JJ will get his due. I relate it to Jeff Hornacek. Of course for the obvious reason of the skin color but more because Horny didn't get quality minutes until midway through his 2nd year in the League. It took Colangelo a while to decide that quality offense overruled subpar defense. But as time went on Horny got minutes and that helped to make his defense something no one really complained about. If JJ gets minutes his D can only get better. So hopefully Stan will realize that Offense is more important that Defense when you have Dwight manning the paint and give JJ some "Horny" minutes.

Welcome to the boards.. I agree with you on the Hornacek part, but there's one difference, he had Stockton next to him. Stockton got steals on players, when they were blinded by his short shorts

So are you recommending that JJ wear Short Shorts?

Not true. Jeff Hornacek did not play with Stockton until his 8th season in the league. He was already in his 30s at this point.

As a defining example, in 1991-92, he averaged over 20 ppg for the Suns. He had four seasons before the Jazz where he had more ppg than his best ever with Stockton. Also, Jeff's rebounding was loads better when he was in his 20s, compared to latter career.

Also, to compare Redick and Hornacek: Jeff was nearly at 20 mpg his rookie season, and started over half his game in his second season. JJ is clearly starting much, much slower.

JJ Redick was around 15 mpg his rookie year; he's at below 10 mpg this year.

Still, age wise, Redick is where Jeff was his rookie year.

W will see.

You're right, for some reason I've always thought of Hornacek and Stockton in one sentence..

Sloan also taught Hornacek, and the rest of the Jazz, that hard-nosed defense that was enough to merit a start on most teams but also wasn't easy to sneak by the refs. And SVG is definitely not at Jerry Sloan's level of coaching just yet.

JJ is quickly becoming the Darko of this year's team on this board. The more you JJ supporters keep making threads like this, the more it's going to back fire on you in the end. Other posters here are going to end up pointing out his glaring weaknesses and every game he plays in he will be highly criticized for any mistakes.

JJ-holics?

JJ-philos

or a derivation on the above: filo-JJ. Ask AdamTheGreek what filo (phyllo) is ;-)

JJ-hounds?

Well I mean come on...it is a lot easier to point out his weaknesses than his strengths...

Everything but shooting vs. Shooting

For those that say I am just a JJ hater because he went to Duke:

I was at the Bulls game the other night. We were up by like 29 at the time and the crowd started chanting "We want JJ". I gladly joined in on the chant. I would love nothing more than to see him on the court so that he can hopefully improve in to what atleast becomes a useable player.

Back to how I feel about him...

When your team is up 29 points, the crowd is cheering for you...and then the coach looks down the bench and brings in a different SG other than you....THERE IS A REASON FOR IT PEOPLE.

JJ will not amount to anything. Deal with it. Get over it. He is nothing more than a good college player who can't make it in the NBA. Just like Reece Gaines, Jeryl Sasser and so on.

Live with it.

The other guards on the Magic are lousy defenders. I really don't see how Redick could be any worse. He's also being ruined on the bench. Young players have to play to reach their potiential.

Except the players you mentioned had a chance to show it. Redick hasn't gotten that chance. You don't know that he can't do it because he hasn't played 1/10th enough to see.
