Knicks-Sixers-Magic musical centers

Post#1 » by drj » Thu Jan 17, 2008 3:43 am

Just playing around, wondering if this trade makes sense:

Knicks send Eddy Curry to Orlando and Mardy Collins to Philly
Receive Samuel Dalembert
Why for the Knicks: much better roster balance, a Dalembert-Randolph pairing makes much more sense than Curry-Randolph

Sixers send Samuel Dalembert to NYK
Receive Pat Garrity (expiring), Carlos Arroyo (expiring), Mardy Collins, and Orlando first rounder
Why for the Sixers: They move a big long term contract for expirings, a (marginal) prospect and a pick

Magic send Pat Garrity, Carlos Arroyo, and first rounder to Philly
Receive Eddy Curry
Why for the Magic: potent offense, with Curry in the low blocks and Lewis and Turkoglu on the wings -- a Curry-Howard pairing gives size and power down low, and Howard's rebounding can cover up for Curry

No from Orlando. Curry can't run with us.

Have you not seen Dalembert lately? Obivously the best center in this deal, I would not trade him for expirings

Diplomatic: Curry actually can run. The Bulls used to use him on the break. Curry would run downcourt and try to establish early position in the post before the defense could set.

Sixerlover: I realize Daly is having a career year, that's why I included both a first round pick and a prospect for him, not just expirings. Do you think that is still not enough?

I like the idea, but it would take ALOT of sweetening to loosen Dalembert from PHI's grips.

Also, I'm not totally sure ORL does this. First, the 1st for Curry seems a bit much. Secondly, if/when ORL brings in another big body to help Howard, I'm not sure it will be a dedicated starter. With Eddy and Dwight manning the low blocks together, it could be very nice. BUT with Lewis and Turkoglu perfomring so well (and that's critical to their success), they would have to slide down from SF-PF to SG-SF. And we know Hedo cannot guard SGs. I'd like to hear from ORL fans, but if I were the Magic, I'd look to acquire a better SG with my expirings, not another C that would alter the starting lineup.

Anyway, IF Orlando likes Eddy enough, and IF Philly is willing to move Sam, it might have to look like this:
