Sam I Am...

Everyone on here has been talking about making a move to get a veteran PG..now Jon Barry is too.

"Notably, Boston's point guard Rajon Rondo (sore lower back) was out of action. Eventually, I think there's going to be a move made to get help behind Rondo at the point. Having Eddie House play the position takes away from focusing on his strength, which is shooting.

Some suggest the Clippers' Sam Cassell could be that man. That kind of point guard upgrade would seem to be a good thing. He's already played with Garnett in Minnesota and Allen in Milwaukee."

Anyone heard anything about this? It sounds just like a suggestion but I wouldn't mind there being some substance behind it. He put down 32 Pts - 7 Ast. - 6 Reb. against phoenix the other night.

I'm a big fan of Sam - have been since he first came in the league - and I think he's the perfect fit, but they aren't going to buy out a player who just put up 32/7/6 are they? and I don't see a trade scenario that works - maybe TA and Scals? - but that's a lot to give up and puts serious holes in our depth

i pray to the basketball gods every night for Sam Cassell to get bought out

but until then, him playing on the Celtics is only a dream

Well Scal, Pruitt, and EHouse for Sam works in the trade checker. I'm sure we'd have to throw in at least one 2nd rounder but would LA do this? Scal has two more years on his contract after this year so they would be taking on salary. EHouse is expring after this season and Pruitt is a prospect with one more year left on his contract. So does Pruitt and the 2nd rounder sweeten the deal enough for the Clippers? I don't think so.

So unless Sam gets bought out, this is all speculation.

Also, the proposal suggested here (TA, House, Scal +) weakens the team in 2 areas as you are strengthening one. Sam can't defend like TA and he can't shoot like House.

He'd be awesome on this team. I don't know about giving up both House and Pruitt, though. Particularly Pruitt, who will be a fine player in the future. But if we're looking to win now--- and, hell yes we are!--- then Danny should be at least dangling some deals. Maybe at this point he's still playing possum and waiting for the buy-out possibility. If Cassell is going to make some noise about getting out, it will start soon.

I see a buyout before a trade. We'll have a good shot at him if he's bought out. Let's hope.

The only problem is do you think Sam may balk at coming off the bench behind Rondo?

no he would be ok because when he re-signed with the clips he knew that in theory he was going to be the mentor to shaun livingston and eventually be backing him up. it comes down to who finishes the game not who starts, and i think sam would be out there in the final min with ray,pp,kg, perk/poz and against certain teams he and rondo would play together with ray being the 3, pp the 4 and kg the 5

I'd love to get Cassell for Tony, Scala and a 2nd rounder. Giving Eddie House would be too much. Eddie provides too much off the bench to trade him.

From what I read on the Clippers board the general concensus is that no one minds if he leaves (good thing)...some want to see him in Boston (good thing)...but it sounds like the Warriors are interested in him too (bad thing). I would not mind seeing TA, Scal, and 2nd rounder packaged for him if we can't take him vet min on a buy out. Can only sit back and see what Ainge can make happen.

Side note/inquiry...What is going on with Big Earl Boykins? He is listed as a FA on hoopshype.com. My fingers are crossed for Sam all the way but he could be a good poor mans option as a ball handler for us...no?

No interest in Boykins. He's a chucking midget. lol

I would think Sam would choose us over the Warriors if a buyout does happen. He played w/KG before and we have a much better chance of getting a ring than GS does. Besides, they may be picking Payton up soon so if that happens they won't go after Sam.

No because someone of Sam's caliber would start. The questions is would Rondo balk at losing his starting job. My guess is no.

Yeah but the thing is, this trade can't happen without either Eddie's or Gabe's contract to make them match. I'd much rather keep TA and give up EHouse and Pruitt. TA is much more valuable in the long run. Especially if we can sign him to a cheep 3-4 year deal during the summer.

Sam would end up starting over Rajon. Heck I think GP would and that's why they haven't brought him in yet. <g> It's just going to be hard for Doc to stick guys with championship rings on the bench.

That being said I fully support bringing in Sam. He is the offensive threat we need at the PG spot to be a dynamite team. You can run pick and rolls all day with Sam - something the team doesn't even bother trying with Rajon.

rondo would absolutely start over sam or gp, but either of sam or gp would most likely finish b/c of ft shooting

rondo does so many little things that are often overlooked
rondo is our starter and will be regardless of what we do

Not only is Sam Cassell a good fit, he's the PERFECT fit!

The guy can flat out play basketball...Forget his age (38), Sam, in the right situation is still one of the better floor generals in the NBA. He would be a great mentor for Rondo and he would help us close games....
KG, Ray, Pierce, and even Rondo would welcome Cassell to Boston.

In my opinion he is the ONLY vet PG that I would want.

1) Sam is not being bought out. He only has this season remaining so why both. More likely they move him to a team dumping salary (how unClipper-like).

2) Why trade for a guy that can be picked up for nothing in the off season. Danny said this season is to build chemistry so this offseason is when we are more likely to find Rondo's backup.

3) The following players are FA's this summer:
Tyronn Lue (Close friend of KG)
Chris Duhon (would be my pick)
Sam Cassell
Jason Williams
Juan Dixon
