Wiretap: Knicks Offered Zach Randolph for Vince Carter

Post#1 » by James699 » Thu Jan 17, 2008 5:08 pm

There was some speculation yesterday the NetsNew Jersey Nets offered Vince Carter to the Knicks, who rejected it. According to a Western Conference source claiming knowledge of the talks, though, it was the Knicks who approached the Nets, about a month ago, offering Zach Randolph for Carter. The Nets declined.

I wish that trade went down. With the cap space Brooklyn Ballers sign Lebron James. It's the ROC, baby!

I can't see why the Knicks would have turned down that offer. They get the way better end of it. It must have been the other way around.

It has conflicting reports of who turned it down, actually. Which was why I was surprised.

EDIT-Unless they meant that New Jersey was seeking someone other than Randolph when New York turned it down. Not sure who else they'd want though.

this makes no sense.

if anything, it was Isiah who called the Nets offering Randolph for Vince.

coz if Isiah turned down that offer, well..... doesn't do much, just adds to his library of terrible decisions.

Fatty for the Heartless Wonder. Make sense, thought I hate both teams so any misery realized upon either warms the cockles of my heart.

It makes complete sense for the Knicks to make that offer and based simply on needs, it even makes some sense for the Nets.

But between Vince and Zach, Carter is by far the lesser of two evils. This would be a bad deal for the Nets.

I dont get how so many people believe in the raptors, they have zero to chance to win it all.

I hear that dude! When the Score was showing footage of the Knicks/Nets game last night, I couldn't decide who to cheer for. I ended up cheering for NY but only cuz I thought it would be funny if they won.

To me, the offer makes sense for both teams. It'll balance each of their rosters.

Nice of Isiah to think he could turn Steve Francis and Channing Frye into Vince Carter.

In my completely unbiased and fact-based opinion I consider this to be an even trade of one useless jackass for another.

No, but they need a defined go-to guy, while also eliminating the issue of Zach and Eddy being two identical players. This would give Vince free reign of the team, and allow Curry to simply play garbage man/dump-off man when Vince gets tired. The Nets get a legit frontcourt presence that has a history of putting up solid numbers. Especailly with J-Kidd feeding him the ball, and Sean Williams working on the defensive end, this actually makes a lot of sense to do for both teams.

That said, I can see why this trade doesnt go down, simply beacuse its within the division, and neither team wants to appear to concede that the team they have now is not good enough.

The nets should still do this deal, Vince got his extension which also means he will be on the decline for the rest of it.

Carter still has more value than Randolph, and the latter is probably one meltdown away from being difficult to trade. With New Jersey likely a year or two away from a rebuild, Randolph likely is not an ideal fit...even if he fits their roster needs at the moment.

I can't see him being very effective in their fast break offense, either.

We've got ourselves a mod-atee.

On a serious note, I agree. Even though Randolph is young enough to still be a valuable asset through NJ's rebuilding, his salary/attitude will cripple the movement.

Yeah I can see Kidd getting pretty fed up with The Black Hole of Randolph (B-Balls are capable of entering a Randolph but are incapable of ever escaping), really really f'ing fast. He'll also take minutes from Sean Williams.

Only a win situation for the Knicks there. Carter can play SF for them and be the go-to shooter they need. Still not enough to make them a contender but they could make the playoffs next year.

Last I heard, Nets wanted Crawford and filler for Carter and Knicks said No to that as Isiah deems Crawford and Lee his "untouchables".
