Could the Mavericks ever get back Michael Finley?

Post#1 » by JapanAir21 » Thu Jan 17, 2008 3:31 pm

Now, I'm not proposing we sign him to a huge deal, and I'm not sure but isn't he a unrestricted free agent after this season? I know he's not what he was, but he would be decent coming off our bench, and if we use a combo of him/Eddie Jones it would at least give us some depth in that position? Compared to what he's getting paid now, I'm sure we could get him for relatively cheap. I know we're still paying him this season, but this will be the last.

Another stupid idea of mine? or anyone else interested?

he could not dribble, drive or play defense 3 years ago. He can shoot threes tho. I do not think he would be a good addition now.

Not until the original contract that was excised expires. As long as the Mavs pay him under the Allan Houston rule, he cannot be on the roster.
The question becomes some offseason if he is worth using some exception to acquire him, and is he willing to accept some exception to come back.
10:20 (pm, 6/29/06) The Mavs take Maurice Ager at No. 28... Ager walks up to the stage in a triple-breasted, oversized beige suit, goes to shake hands with Stern and immediately gets whistled for a foul on Dwyane Wade.

I think signing Stack to a 3 year, 21 mil, deal pretty muck eliminated any chance of Finley coming back. Besides, he as found a home in SA and may stay there.

Not to start up too much, but I believe Finley said in an interview that he'd gladly join another Texas team in the future; I'll see if I can find the article.

What about Eddy Najera? Josh Howard can oft get into foul trouble, and along with Jason Terry he could come off the bench to add a spark, be aggressive and play some defense, his contract is also up at the end of this year. Am I just dreaming or could be a reality? I think he's a little more plausible since I think he's more usable. (Hell, we have Jones/Devean/Hassell, getting rid of one of them and adding Najera would be alright [at the end of the year]).

They are ex-Mavs for a reason... I dont want Finley's 15 shot attempts OR his 4 makes per game back in AAC unless its in a Spurs uniform.

they could, sure, but I don't think Finley would even if they asked him. there is too much history between him and the rest of the Mavs. he was a starter here and if he re-signed, he would be the 8th man. too humiliatiing for him when he was once the starter here.]
