"It just shows that he's come a long way," Hornets Coach Byron Scott said before Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Clippers at the Staples Center. "The things we keep saying about him, that he's one of the best point guards in the league -- young or old -- is starting to come to true. He's a coach's dream because he's such a good player."
Paul ranks first in the NBA in steals (3.0), third in assists (10.2) and 20th in scoring (21.5), while helping the Hornets equal their best start in franchise history after 31 games (20-11).
"It is an honor to receive this award and to be recognized in a conference with so many great players," said Paul. "I have to give a lot of credit to my teammates, and I look forward to us continuing to work together toward our goal of reaching the playoffs."
Paul, however, has a difficult stretch games ahead this week in which he will go against former Hornets point guard Baron Davis on Friday and Phoenix's Steve Nash on Saturday.
