OT- pape sow goes to poland

Post#1 » by lupo » Fri Jan 18, 2008 10:17 am

yesterday pape signed with prokom tefl sopot.

insiders say that rieti finished all the money (with him also russel carter left the team).

he finishes his italian season with 13.5 points, 9.4 rebounds. 51% from the field, 61% at the free trow line, 3 lose ball, 2.5 recovers, 0.4 assist and 0.5 blocks.

in this months he played decent basketball but often he had big minutes or entire games were he was a big whole and for this level wasn't the crack that i expected.

in my opinion he can became a really good player here in europe, but that's all. good luck to pape for his new adventure in poland!

Clearly defense is the difference between winning and losing for this team.

Prokom has an outside chance of making the Top 16 of Euroleague.
I understand that Rieti is having problems, but it is hard to understand Pape's decision.

I am sure that Prokom has loads of money to pay him, and there is an outside chance to make the Top 16 which will mean LOADS of exposure, but the Italian League is so much more prestigious, and he could easily have a contract with an other Italian team...

He will probably be Polish Champion, and will be playing with Van der Spiegel, an interesting 4/5 combo....

Good luck Pape.... Wish you came with ROMA!!

Yeah, but Wagner was or still is injured...a better player they have is Mustafa Shakur. I was in Poland this Christmas and went and saw a game. I think Pape will dominate but if there's one place to play and live in Poland, it would be Sopot (Prokem Trefel are the sponsors, Sopot is the city...in the summer time it is amazing!). Anyways, I doubt they make it to the 16 finals as when i was there they were 1-8 I think...

Garbage time just aint the same without Pape Sow and Uros Slokar. It was so much fun watching them come in for the last few minutes of a game last year. This year, is there anyone I really care to see during garbage time? Nah, not really.

I'm from Poland and I was brought up in Sopot so I will have a chance to see Pape play some b-ball down in Poland and hopefully I will have an oportunity to talk to him. As someone mentioned CSKA Moscow has big injury problems down in the post, so they decided they want Van Den Spiegel back. Prokom said that the only condition on them giving back the Belgium centre is that Moscow buys out Pape Sows contrackt so he plays in Prokom and that's what happened. To be honest I don't think he will be better then Van Den Spiegel but I love what Sow brings to the table. Prokom needs players that hustle, bring good D and fight on the boards. I think Sopot is a very good team for Pape Sow because he will have the oportunity to compete at the highest level in the euroleague (if they do manage to quilify to the TOP16 which is unlikely, at the moment they got 2 games left) but Polish league isn't that bad, we had X raptors playing here (Oliver Miller, Shawn Respert, Sharone Wright, Aleksander Radojevic, Acie Earl and more...). I'm looking forward to see Pape Sow in action and i'm very happy I will have an oportuinity to see another X raptor here in my country.

Peace

So you currently live in Sopot?? If so, your english is pretty damn good! Better than most Poles I know. I'm curious as to how you became a Raps fan if you are from Poland?? Do you have family in toronto I imagine?? I went to a game over the holidays in Sopot and i have to say the atmosphere was great! That stadium is qute interesting as it looks like a big, wooden barn but it was cool. I imagine the new one that they're having problems with is pretty nice too it's just too bad it has serious structural issues...

My situation is a bit crazy because I was born in London UK, then when I was still a baby we moved to Sopot, lived there till the summer of 2001 and since 2001 i live in Warsaw (capital city of Poland). My Dad's English and my Mum's Polish so I learned to speak English but it's a bit different with writing ;) I started to be a fan of the Toronto Raptors when I was like 7... As soon as i watched "Space Jam" i really got into basketball as a kid, and i chose to be a fan of the Raptors because i got family there and i hope i will go there one day and check out a game live. The stadium you have been to is currently shut because the roof needs to be fixed, there was even a possibility of it colapsing... So at the moment they play there games in Sopot in a very small basketball stadium.

So how did you end up in Sopot and how did you like it? My cousins when they came over for the summer from Toronto really enjoyed it here... Non-stop partying and hooking out good looking Polish chicks :D

Pape Sows first game in Poland :D In 20 minutes of playing time he scored 11 points (5/7 from the field, 1/2 from the free throw line) and he also had 4 rebounds.

Yeah I was actually at the small stadium (Sto Lat Hala or something like that) but it was nice. The atmosphere for the game was good, fans chanting and really just into basketball which I did not think would be the case. The hall was almost full, probably close to 2000 people. I ended up in Sopot b/c I have family near Elblag (Braniewo) and I took a couple of my cousins to the game. I am a huge ball fan andwanted to catch a game in Poland...did some research and found out Sopot was the closest plus had thebest team, so we went. As for Sopot the city, I spent a week there in the summer of probaboy 2000 so I was too young to hit the clubs...too bad, b/c most Polish women are fine!! Sopot/Gdansk/Gdinia is the one of a few regions of Poland that I'd actually consider living if I was to ever go back...the other are bydgoszcz and Warsaw (but it's damn pricey!). I haven't seen much of southern poland so maybe that would change after i've seen it, hoping to do so this summer actually.
