Lamar Odom for free, well almost.
The Lakers could have enough cap flexibility to make a max deal offer this off season if they could move Odom and Radmanovic for pure expirings/draft picks/small rookie deals. I am sure many teams would go for this, the problem is not too many teams have the expirings that it takes. Are there any teams out there that can put together such a deal. Before I get blasted by fellow Lakers fans, let me explain a little further.
The benefit next year is obvious, but it would look to ruin this year, but as part of this deal I propose we send a tiny expiring to Seattle for Kurt Thomas who could replace Odom (and hopefully we would also sign Webber). I am pretty sure Seattle would do that to save 6-7 million. Then we could make a max offer to somebody (and since we are the Lakers, probably get the top available prize).

MIN may be able to turn a contending team's smaller expirings into Ratliff's $11.67 one, along these type of lines:
LAL SENDS: Odom + Vlad Rad
LAL GETS: Ratliff (exp), Craig Smith, Ryan Gomes, Gerald Green, etc
LAL continues to contend to keep Kobe happy, and becomes maybe only the third team able to make offers in the 2008 Free Agency (avoiding the competition with all the teams aiming for 2009 Free Agency).
CONTENDER SENDS: $5-6 mil expirings + 2-year deal + (picks or prospects)
CONTENDER GETS: Odom + Vlad Rad
Trades low or future production for a win-now component.
MIN GETS: $5-6 mil expirings + 2-year deal + (picks or prospects)
MIN GIVES: Ratliff (exp), Craig Smith, Ryan Gomes, Gerald Green, etc
"Win-later" MIN is able to trade away plenty of production if it helps them gain future prospects and picks.
Now the problem is the same as its been for a year .. find a team that wants Odom.

I can actually make that work financially. Someone else might want to go through and tweak it to fit line-ups:
GSW GIVES: Pietrus, Barnes, Bellini, O'Bryant, Perovic
GSW GETS: Odom, Coby Karl
GSW gets Odom with minor parts. Add in a TPE for VladRad. Bellini needs to be in, and even then, it barely matches financially with Pietrus BYC. I took out the 1st.
LAL GETS: Ratliff, Barnes, Craig Smith, Gomes, Gerald Green
LAL GIVES: Odom, Sasha, Coby Karl, 1st
All expirings and +20.9 ppg, +9.4 rpg, and +2.2 apg. A little less when Vlad Rad goes out for the TPE. With all this production and cap space, Lakers should chuck in a 1st.
MIN GIVES: Ratliff, Barnes, Craig Smith, Gomes, Gerald Green
MIN GETS: Sasha, Pietrus, Bellini, O'Bryant, Perovic, LAL 1st
MIN eats some salary and loses a ton of production, but gets some future prospects for next season.

Here's a thought, what if the Lakers wanted cap space for this off-season but went about acquiring players with opt out clauses. I have a scenario that would allow the Lakers to dabble with the best of both worlds(competing now AND later).
The deal would be:
Mike Bibby/Ron Artest
for
Lamar Odom
Vladimir Radmanovic
Andrew Bynum
The Lakers could then promise Bibby/Artest Bird right deals if they opt out...and have the cap space to go out and sign a major free agent(i.e. Josh Smith). This would give the Lakers their core of:
C: Who cares
PF: FA(Josh Smith?)
SF: Ron Artest
SG: Kobe Bryant
PG: Mike Bibby

I feel its my duty to report this. Andrew Bynum is top 5 hardest guys to trade for, and with good reason. These are the only two players I believe LA trades Bynum for:
LeBron James
Dwight Howard

Artest and Bibby are talented players with attitude and injury issues, respectively. You are vastly overestimating their value if you think you can get Odom and Bynum for them.

The Kings will not trade with the Lakers. Last year or the year before (I don't recall exactly) the Lakers-Kings had a done deal to get Bibby to LA. However, the Kings owners said no to the deal because it would mean trading with one of their biggest rivals.
stupid business decision? yes. but it's pretty clear you won't see a KINGS-LAKERS trade anytime soon.
and also, why would the Lakers make any trades right now? As far as they are concerned, they have the best team in the West when everyone is healthy so for them to move Odom would take a lot more than just expiring contracts.

Here's a thought, you go ahead and keep those guys.
#1 Bibby and Artest can't get you Andrew. Then on top of it you ask for Odom. That is just crazy talk.
#2 Your plan doesn't work at all as you have us keeping Bibby and Artest, and having cap space to sign Josh Smith (who most likely won't be available). The math doesn't work, we wouldn't have any cap space at all with Artest and Bibby. We would only have cap space if we let them walk, and then we gave away Odom and Bynum for cap space, I know Mitch has a bad reputation, but I know he wouldn't make that mistake. That would be like trading Caron Butler for Kwame, just crazy.

Odom would be a great fit with Houston with his passing ability and versatility at that 4/3 spot. Even Radman would be a decent fit here with his shooting ability. Unfortunately I don't think we have enough especially considering you want expirings. The best we could possibly offer is Battier+Novak+Snyder+Francis+James and a protected first for Odom and Radman but I'm sure you could get better...

This is the right train of thought. We would just need to find a team to take Battier and James for expirings/picks.

If Lakers are serious about trading Lamar Odom for expirings, rookie contracts, and picks. Orlando will do it.
Lamar Odom for Dooling, Arroyo, Garrity Redick 1st rounder
I know it's a **** deal. But we took Brian Cook away from you guys. YOU OWE US!
Nah I see it's a bad deal. Considering you guys are contending in the West Conf. And this deal gets you zero value till the summer. But I just followed what you said.

Orlando was my first thought, but I hit a dead end with how to send Radmanovic over to the Magic also. No Odom without taking VladRad, otherwise I would be all over a deal with Orlando for expirings / Reddick (to Seattle for Kurt Thomas) / and 08 First and maybe an 09 first swap option. I just couldn't come up with enough expirings unless you are willing to trade both Reddick and Bogans, but then I wonder who would play SG for Orlando?

Yeah, if you're expecting us to take on Vladimir. It's not going to work. We're even low in depth with the trade I posted as we got no back-up PG.
So it's not going to work.
