he gets paid guaranteed money if he signs a contract.
he could always be listed as inactive and never have to suit up.
and the team could negotiate a buyout to pay him less that the total amount due in that first year.

in essence = free money for very little hassel

Skin's Genius Plan to Get Shaq in a Mavs Uniform goes national

Tim MacMahon E-mail News tips

ESPN.com's Chris Sheridan didn't give my man Skin any credit, but check out this nugget from his column on superstars who could be on the move.

Shaquille O'Neal, Heat

Miami coach Pat Riley used the word "mandate" Tuesday when he said ownership wants him to get below the luxury tax threshold of $67.875 million, which would mean he needs to trim about $6 million off his payroll by Feb. 21.

Riley said he has no plans to trade O'Neal, who makes $20 million (this season and two more seasons). But he also threw the thought out there that a few teams might believe that Shaq is just the player to make them title contenders.

It is unclear whether O'Neal would welcome a trade, but keep in mind that he is going through a divorce and might embrace a move to a new city. With the Heat, losers of 11 straight, in last place in the East, we could envision O'Neal's being happier in Dallas (which could get him by using Keith Van Horn in a sign-and-trade) or East Rutherford, N.J., which is close to his Newark roots.

now it won't happen for sure...

Instead of Shaq why don't the Mavs just go get Eddie Curry??? I mean half the money and age almost the same production as Shaq this season. All the Mavs would have to do is wait for the Knicks to fire that idiot Thomas and all it would cost is just KVH's expiring deal.

1) Shaq would be free talent wise...maybe Diop.
2) Curry's contract is longer and Shaq is on line to expire with Dampier, Hassell and Stackhouse.
3) Shaq is a better rebounder even in his old age.
4) Shaq has 3 times the amount of blocks.
5) Shaq has twice as many assists.
6) Shaq may be a little lazy, but so is Curry and Curry is a cancer as well.
7) Shaq is a calculated production, whereas Curry could go down at anytime with his heart...kinda like Etan Thomas
8 )Shaq may be slow, but Curry is soft on the defvensive end and a hog like Brandon Bass on the offensive end.

Just off the top of my head.

^^^ All of that is pretty much true. Curry is a complete waste of space, who should only come of the bench since he is a complete liability on the defensive end and to top it off, a rebounding liability.

1. You wish! The Heat are not letting Shaq go for nothing and someting tells me if they do put him on the market the Mavs will not be the only ones interested.
2. How do you know Shaq wants to play with Ericka or vice a versa and that won't cause team chemistry issues? Curry's contract is 1 year longer you act like it is
3. 2 rebounds a game is not worth 11-12 million more a year.
4. If it was 3 block against 1 you have something but considering Damp is averaging the same amount as Shaq and he makes a lot less than Shaq...
5.:nonono:
6. No Shaq is not a little lazy he is A LOT HURT! Curry is lazy but you play on bad teams your whole carrer and see what bad habits you pick up?
7.Status Alert: Miami coach Pat Riley said O'Neal's hip didn't show any signs of trouble the day after playing for the first time in eight games, the Miami Herald reports. (Jan 18) ESPN. Ya right Shaq is'nt falling apart or anything.
8. So what your saying is neither can play against the Suns,Warriors, Hornets and Sonics? The point is Dallas should not want either of these guys. Shaq is done or real close to it and Curry will probably never figure it out. Shaq is putting up very close to Curry type numbers and makes twice as much as Curry. The real question about Shaq becomes how long before he puts up numbers worse than Eddy?

If you want to add their salary in, I'd rather have:

1) Most centers not on the trade market (D12, Chandler, Bogut, Ming, Bynum, etc.)
2) Diop
3) Shaq
4) Any other center that is on the trade market
5) Ben Wallace
6) Curry

Curry sucks and that's all there is to it.

And yes, Shaq & Dampier are both better than Curry when you take their all around game. Curry is very similar to Bass...a tall guy with tunnel vision, but Bass plays a little more defense.

He gets money for doing nothing. He will not play for them, and I have always thought he would stay retired and help Miami lose several years of Shaq salary
