Is Josh Smith better than Chris Bosh?

Post#1 » by Jamaaliver » Sat Jan 19, 2008 1:11 am

There was a TOR fan who posted on our site a few weeks ago about a potential trade with the Raptors. At one point he made the comment that Bosh was a franchise player. I disagreed. At the time their stats were nearly identical. (With Smoove's blocks and steals the difference.)

I'm forced to ask. Are they of equal skill? Bosh clearly has more offensive abilities, but Smoove's defensive skills are undeniable.

Also, Bosh's injury history is of some concern.

After seeing both guys go crazy in Friday night's first half, what do you all think?

AND TRY TO BE SUBJECTIVE.

Bosh is a better player right now. But for the long run I am a Smoove guy.

And they are both franchise players. Well Bosh already is, Smoove will be soon.

Bosh has the consistency that Josh doesn't have, but if Josh ever gets that then I'd take him for sure.

To be fair Smoove has been very consistent over the last 20+ games. Look at his shooting %. His issue is his defensive rebounding and turnovers.

Which are both a part of being consistent...

They each have their positive and negatives, but saying which one is better is subjective. Right now I would venture to say Bosh is better in the key areas, aka scoring and rebounding. Smith gets the nod in the defensive sector and he has higher steals, dimes, and blocks.

My bad, I thought you were disussing his shooting. The good thing is that was by far the most inconsistent part of his game. That was the one element I was afraid he might not turn a corner because he was playing so stubborn.

Josh probably has more upside than Bosh but Bosh is much, much, more easier to build a team around. Josh has no offensive identity...he doesn't know if he's a face up player, post up player,or spot up shooter. You also don't know what he is going to give you each night which is a negative. i've seen way to many 4-14 type games for a player with his talent(although those have become very rare recently). He has shown flashes(like the last 10 games) but I need to see him do it for the majority of the season. He is capable of being a 20 point per game scorer(with good effiency)and playing DPOY defense. If Josh had a coach who was more strict on him(who didn't let him take 20 footers)and a point guard to set him up..he would be a beast.

Bosh is obviously better at this point, but Josh Smith would look a whole lot better on that Raptors team.

Bosh is better on offense, as he showed tonight. Josh is a better player in the fact that he does the little things, like get the blocks, the steals, and passing for a big man.

But Bosh took the game over when his team needed it. Smith is a better defender..every one knows that. What Bosh does is more important and easier to build a team around. Sean Marion may be a better "overall" player than Dirk but there's no way I would consider him "better". It's the same thing for Smith and Bosh.
