Darius Miles

Post#1 » by Trail This » Fri Jan 18, 2008 11:42 pm

I know people don't want to hear about Darius, but I was curious when exactly he will be back with the team? I am not from Oregon so do not hear the day to day talk. In early december they said it would be 6 weeks....it has been 6 weeks and I still have not heard anything. For those of you who live near portland, what is the deal?

I'm in Atlanta and have season tickets, was hoping to see him Monday but that is probably wishful thinking. I grew up right next to D and saw him many times in high school

Theres a lot going on behind the scenes that we obviously dont know, but I could see him coming back and seeing what he can do here in the next couple weeks.. probably 2-3 weeks, I would guess (pure speculation).. Just in time for the trade deadline.. But who knows, I could see him here next year too if we make room and hes really matured as he says he has

BTW.. Welcome to the board

Who ??? Darius ... Who ??? Miles ... WHAT ?

Now to be serious i hope to NEVER EVER see him put on a Blazer Uniform in a game. Now i have heard / read things saying maybe he has grown up specially since having a child. I hope this is true i hope he can finally be a man and one that his child can be proud of. It comes down to there is too much BAD history and its time he leaves. Also let's be honest because of his history will fans really give him a fair shot? ..... No and he made his bed but he does deserve another chance just not in Portland.

What did Miles that was THAT bad?? Yes he laced into his coach one time, but other than that..?? Its not like he was Zbo and ending up in trouble with the law all the time. I just think that Miles reputation is a little bit unfair. Not to say hes an angel, but he wasnt nearly as bad as he has been perceived. If he can come back and be a part of this team and help it succeed, im all for it

Your kidding right and you forgot to mention that he disrupts practices or did when he was healthy.

I just do not get WHY some fans still like Miles.

I think you are a bit bias, everyone thinks everyone on the Blazers right now are saints. I tend to agree with that, but even at the beginning of this year Steve Blake was throwing chairs around, and Roy was cussing out his team mates in practices. You have to understand that stuff has got to be rife in the NBA, just as it is in any normal work situation when the morale is low and in the case of the NBA the team is loosing. Now personally I think Miles has gotten a really unfair rap here too, hes been gone so long now that everyone can't remember him completely, they only remember if they don't like him or not. You go back and make a list of all the 'Jail Blazer' stuff he did and compare it to even Zach Randolph (who tons of people still like here) and its a joke.

I can't see him making the lineup regardless of if he can play or not. Outlaw has been amazing and there's no way he takes Martell's and Jones's time. I say the Blazers buy his ass out and get this over with.

Thats not really totally true, Martell can play the 2 guard spot and Miles and Outlaw both can play the 4 well. Actually Outlaw is stellar at the power forward position thats where he excels the most, Miles used to be great on the fast break, just like Outlaw. Potentially pairing them as the Forwards with like Channing or someone as the center and Sergio leading the charge that could be one hell of a fun 2nd unit.

Now granted I highly doubt Miles will be as explosive as he was, or as fast, but all in theory it could be a lot of fun. I guess my main feeling is why not just give it a shot? What do we REALLY have to loose this year? Maybe just maybe this great team chemistry will rub off on Miles, and through all the leaked down reports it already has. Lets just give him a chance, who knows maybe he will be the perfect fit.

Your basically saying i am being unfair to Miles ..... Correct ?

I did say i hope i NEVER see him in a Blazer uniform again and i stand by this to a degree. IF the only way to get him off this roster is for him to play just enough to help his Trade value. Well then do it AS LONG as he plays nice.

There's no room on a team like ours for a player like Miles. He had the talent but refused to work hard night in and night out and made a mockery of the Blazers organization. I know that it appears that he's changed but the articles seem sugar-coated to me and I don't want to risk his attitude rubbing off on the younguns.

Hes already around them all the time. Again, he hasnt done anything THAT bad.. Now, he hasnt been a model citizen, but he hasnt been the stereotypical "jailblazer" (Wallace, Rider, Wells, Woods, Zbo, Stoudamire). Stoudamire grew up as he got older, and I dont see why Miles cant either. He seems to have fallen into line with this team now and who knows what could happen. Im not saying make a spot for him in the starting lineup, but theres a whole lot that goes on that we dont know about. If someone like Roy or even LMA doesnt want Miles there once he comes back, then I'm sure he will shortly be gone. All im saying is that he hasnt done enough in the past to have people write him off for good. He seems to have worked hard and matured and I think he at least deserves the benefit of the doubt for the time being, although with a short leash.

I seriously doubt anybody will take him from us. His contract is too large, and there are too many downsides for him to be worth the chance that he will develop into a good player again. I really dont know what to do with him. There arent enough minutes at sf. Jones really deserves 30, but Martell deserves 25, both for his current ability and his to develop, so tell me how Miles can provide -7 minutes, and then I will think there is a spot for him. Too many downsides, not enough upsides for pt or a trade.

He sure looked good in those brief moments of practice footage they were showing a week ago.
