Some trades to ponder (All trades keep in mind the Wizards desire to avoid paying the luxury tax - all deals have the Wiz sending out slightly more in salary)

Wizards trade:
Darius Songaila
Nick Young
'08 1st round pick (unprotected)
Future 1st round pick (by way of Memphis)

Sonics trade:
Jeff Green
Delonte West

Simple deal: Jamison for Gasol.

Pau's value has never been lower (we would, under normal circumstances, not be able to acquire a player like him foe a player like AJ) and Antawn's has never been
higher. A young trio of Pau, Caron and Gilbert would terrorize the NBA for a LONG time.

I still don't think the Grizzlies do it straight up. They'd have to get a rebuilding piece back in my opinion.

Just to add however: Jamison is better than Gasol this year. Alot better. So it would be a downgrade on the court (and in the lockeroom) for sure. Not only that, but the Wiz face paying the LT. With all these factors considered, is it worth trading for Gasol? I dunno. That's why EG makes the big bucks.

I like what Dat's doing - basically using Young's trade value to improve the team. I think his Lowry trade makes the most sense for both teams.

Yea I'm on board with pretty much all of those except the Tomberwolves one.

But for the most part, those are all considerable deals.

Our team (with a healthy Arenas) is pretty well-balanced. We've got a nice mix of offensive and defensive bigs, and a nice mix of offensive and defensive guards. We have quality veteran leaders, and exciting young players with potential.

The way I see it, we lack one thing: a backup guard who can create his own shot and score when the offense isn't working. I think Nick Young is a perfect fit for that role. Yeah, his game is still raw, but I'm already seeing improvement with his defense and his passing.

I just don't really understand the rationale of trading him for a redundant player. When are we going to play a guy like Craig Smith? Where does Noah fit in if we still have Haywood and Blatche?

The only trades I'm particularly interested in are ones that help our salary. I wouldn't mind a trade to pick up a future PG prospect (AD isn't going to play forever), but it's not a pressing issue right now. I'm content to wait until the draft to worry about that.

This one is even from a value perspective to both teams, especially Memphis since this gives them the freedom to move Mike Miller and avoid overpaying to keep Kinsey.

Lowry helps the Wiz a lot while Gilbert is out. But what about after that? He's nice insurance in case Gil leaves for whatever reason but if/when Gil re-signs, we'd have to look to move Daniels and I'm not sure I really want to do that. AD's great as a backup PG and a leader in the locker room.

I would consider Lowry as more of a Gilbert replacement instead of a Daniels replacement. If that makes any sense.

Agreed with a twist.

The only trades I'm interested in are ones involving Songaila and our future first for a PG to help us while AD is nicked because we have nothing behind him. GA wont be back until probably March so we are very vulnerable at PG until then. I like all the other pieces we have so I wouldn't want to move them. DMAC hasn't shown anything but he still may and he isn't worth anything and he is chep so why move him.

Songaila and a pick should be able to fetch at a min a quality 2nd PG. Even a Wilks type player helped us with his PG skills and perimeter D.

Songaila has some game and even a late first is worth something so that should be enough to offer.

If there is a chance we can make a run this year when GA returns, then we need to protect the momentum we have going until he returns. Every time AD misses a game, we have a huge fall off.

Songaila and a pick hopefully solves that while clearing some cap space. Songaila doesn't fit here next year. There just aren't enough spots on the roster moving forward. We don't need him with OP and AB, specially if we may get Etan back. He doesn't add enough unique talent.

Lets find a PG

Chris Sheridan in an article suggested the Knicks trade Zach Randolph and Malik Rose (?) for Jamison. Uhm...wtf?

Anyone who suggests the Zards should take Zach Randolph in a trade for anyone but Etan should be shot.

I agree with Nate and Hands. The team is really well-balanced, when healthy. They'll have multiple first round picks in the future and have many promising young players signed cheap for many years. The only trades I think the Wizards should consider would be Songaila+Mem 1st, or Etan+Mem 1st for better contracts.

EG has done a good job constructing the team and when Arenas gets back I think that they will really take off.

I agree with Nate. Young is valuable to us right now, and will get even better.

Even though i advocated drafting a PG in the first round this upcoming year, I wouldn't trade for Lowry, not if we have to give up both Young and McGuire. I really like both of their futures.

But this is Lowry's second year. He will need a new deal at the same time Daniels' contract expires. If we draft a PG, he will be able to learn the offense for 2 years under Daniels, then we will have an ultra cheap backup PG for 2 years.

And to piggy-back on nates post even further, when would we play Noah, Smith, Brewer or Green?

The one I like most is Green, but I wouldn't give up Young for him. Plus I think in a year or two McGuire will show to be the same type of player as Green, probably as good.

Haha oh man... Chad Ford came up with a doozy in his Fix the Knicks article:

They may also try to entice the Wizards with a deal of Curry and Malik Rose for Antawn Jamison, whose contract comes off the books at the end of the season.

Or the Knicks could try to get Jamison for Randolph if the Wizards won't bite on Curry.

Do people watch the Wizards at all?

I wouldn't trade Jamison for Curry, Rose AND their lotto pick.
