Seriously - if we threw buckets of cash at J Thompson III could we get him? I haven't heard any rumors regarding him at any pro positions...

Why are people so against Van Brownlisle? What, you think this team is gonna kick ass playing fastbreak, offensive basketball?

The more I see this team struggle with Boylan, the more I think that one of those three is exactly what this team needs. Jeff Van Gundy especially. JVG is Skiles-ish on the surface, but unlike Skiles, players seem to love the guy, and unlike Larry Brown, he might actually stick around for a while. A basketball team with a bunch of defensive bigs, no elite scorers, no pure point guard, and no inside scoring? That's the stuff of Van Gundy dreams right there.

And judging by the job Adelman, one of the most accomplished coaches working today, has been doing in Houston, it looks like JVG got about as much out of the Rockets as anybody could have hoped for.

Hasn't Jeff Van Gundy already said to the media that he doesn't want to coach for the Bulls assuming that they may ask him? Im pretty sure i read a quote from him on ESPN pretty much right after Skiles firing that he wasn't interested in the job even as though he was their number one guy or something.

I definitly wouldn't mind him though. He is a smart and charasmatic coach, something that Boylan is not. Plus, who doesn't want to see that bald little man, walking up and down our sidelines with his diet Coke in hand?? We could start a draw on Van Gundy's head thread which would easily last 100 plus pages..

I'm sure that Jeff Van Gundy would be getting criticized left and right half a year down the line. Face it: our problems are the roster.

If Skiles had Kobe and/or a legit post scoring machine, or some kind of reliable player who can lead by example on the court, then there would hardly be a reason for him to be so pissed off all the time.

Come on... this team's talent-level is being exposed. Get a master mind coach, knock the chemistry up... and the offense will still struggle if Gordon and Deng aren't hitting their shots. It's that simple. Deng can't post up (yet), Gordon doesn't seem like he will ever be able to drive relentlessly for his scoring, and Hinrich is role-player quality (whose shot goes on and off every other month, in a good season- this year, he's shot well once every 15 games or so).

After this year, I can tell that veteran coaches are not going to want to work with this group; it's going to be a real headache managing the egos, the rotations and the offensive short-comings.

A team the Bulls should monitor is the Phoenix Suns . If they fail to make it to the finals again . I think they will fire Mike Dantoni . If he is available . The Bulls should go after him

Van Gundy spent the whole first quarter last night trashing the Bulls. He definitely did say he would not be interested in the Bulls opening. I really don't see any way he could be coach. On the plus side, he saw the situation last night the same way that most of us did, which is to say, he would be an upgrade over Boylan.

Personally, I just want a smart coach. Not one with an overriding philosophy or agenda. I want a guy who coaches to what talent he has and what the game situation dictates. To an extent, that's rare. Most guys come in with a philosophy that they stick to regardless of circumstance.

Probably more than anything, this is why I think Riley is the best. He has demonstrated flexibility while maintaining accountability.

I'll throw an oddball name out there:
Avery Johnson. If Dallas goes down early, I wonder if he gets fired. I really like the way he coaches, even if he did get pantsed by Nelson last year. He is young and seems to learn.

He runs real pro sets and seems to put emphasis on both offense and defense.

I would love Nate Macmillan too, but no way he is available.

For those wanting JVG- look at who he's coached. Knicks and Rockets. Ewing and Yao. He run a post offense system, and we don't have post offense. Just not a good fit.

JVG transitioned the Knicks away from using Patrick Ewing though.
