Barbosa traded - prank?

Post#1 » by stood-amire » Sat Jan 19, 2008 8:49 am

I was watchin recap of our game against Minesota on nba.com and at the end where players stats appear, reporter said that someone called Barbs in his hotel room after the game in Los Angeles and told him that he has to come to front desk because he has been traded, on his way he ran into Dan D'antoni and said to him ˝i thought you guys liked me˝ he was very upset but Dan told him that just isnt true. One of reporters said that he thinks the call came from one of his teamates, well that would be pretty sick. :-?

If thats true there are some big assho... on our team, but still i dont belive the call came from his teamate and it was probably some angry LA fan. Anyway Barbs is heating up

i heard that too. surprised it wasn't brought up in a thread earlier. kinda quiet on this board for such a good team, but maybe because it was a blowout, people tuned out.

he's a bit of an idiot for using his real name. lol. now that was a great prank. he seems gullible like a little kid too. what a player though!

It is one of the headlines. What happened is that barbossa registered under his name on the hotel room, and then Kerr calls in and says to meet him in the lobby about a trade. Then when Barbossa meets him on the lobby near to tears, he tells barbossa to not be silly, they wouldn't trade him, but also that signing up in the hotel with his own name isn't good either. I guess that Kerr wanted to teach him that he shouldn't check into the hotel with his name, when he should be doing it under another name.

Re-read the article. He didn't meet Kerr, in fact, he couldn't contact Kerr (according to the report Craig had during the Lakers game on TNT) and he had to run to Dan D'Antoni and he was in tears.

Man we cant trade that guy :nonono: He was in tears, that says a lot about him, he loves to play in Phoenix, he has very good contract and just because he was in the slupm for some time we are just gona trade him. So SAS sould just trade Ginibili when he isnt hiting 50% or what. He is on of rare guys on our team that puts team in front of himself. If anyone should be traded it should be Marion who is important for this team but is the bigest cancer next to Amare but we cant trade Amare because he is our franchise player. We have bad chemistry and we are willing to trade the guy that has nothing to do with it. Nash, Barbs and Hill in my opinion are guys who really try to fix our chemistry but if others keep destroing it we are not gona get anywhere. right now i would trade Doris for anything, even Kwame :nonono:

So now we are trading guys that try to fix our chemistry but arent very sucessul meybe we are looking for someone who can fixt it? I dont know but as far as i know we should be trading guys who are destroing it not the guys who fail to fix it.

Poor Barbs, I even read he was told that he was traded to the Knicks, which of course would have been even meaner

I like the guy, but if he wants to stay around he just has to improve his game, it's way too one-dimensional: run, shoot, run, shoot, run...you get what i mean.
"Defense, coach, WTF are you talking about? We haven't heard of something like that in Brazil. Have you ever seen our soccer national squad play?!" - I know no one around here cares about soccer, but it's still a good one

I guess a unimproved Barbosa has his hole in this team as long he wants to.

Hey pet, how about those blocks where amare owned your boy Nene?

This was a good joke pulled. I hope it was one of his team mates to get the guys loose. They need to do this, but maybe not to barbs. He is like the gullible kid on the team. Tells you that it is more than a business to barbs. They dude wants to die a sun. Yes, he is very one dimensional, and is a very good 6th man. I hope he can improve on his weaknesses soon

As an Italian soccer fan, I can say that is funny.

And no, I see no irony whatsoever in loving Italian soccer and hating San Antonio basketball.

To be fair, though, Barbs is getting 3 assists per night (5 in the last two) as an SG, at least a steal or two and an occasional block.

Now, late-period time management is something he needs to work on, to be sure!

Thanks for giving me a pretty good laugh regarding your soccer comment, buddy :D

Regarding Barbs: I'm not saying he's not a good player, and he's definitely a good character guy, but his deficits on the defensive end, as well as the fact that he (though collecting some assists) just can't man the point as Nash's backup really bother me. It's not like I just want to get rid of him, but if we could get a decent big man in return, I'd definitely have to think about it.

JustMoe, LB has his flaws, but his defense has come a long way, and he plays a lot more in control than he used to. He's still a little jumpy at times but compare to what we had two years ago, he has improved ALOT in that area. Simply stated, even if LB was our starter at SG, he'd still be a bargain. He's not a PG, and would be better off with another distributor next to him, but having a tall PG next to him isn't necessary (only desirable). His defense is good enough that he can match up on most SGs. In cases where we need to go bigger at SG, Raja and Hill will do.

No it wasn't his teammate or anyone from the Suns org. It was believed that it's some (Please Use More Appropriate Word) fans in LA.

i'm sure most people have read this already but i thought i would link it anyways in case some people haven't.

http://myespn.go.com/blogs/truehoop/0-2 ... t-One.html

there are ten parts to the story. barbosa went through alot to get here. if we traded him it would be a really dumb decision. the kid signed for so much less than he is worth. he loves this team. he loves this city (so many blonde chicks).

By the end of the day, Leandro Barbosa was laughing about a practical joke that had him scurrying around the team

I'd still say there's a difference between collecting some assists and running a team, playing the passes needed to keep the offense going. Nash does the latter, Barbosa doesn't. You may actually be right about comparing him to players like Arenas, since he isn't a playmaker, either.
To me, Barbs is comparable to Ben Gordon - a combo guard who's too small to play SG and not enough of a playmaker to handle the point for at least 10 minutes a game (I clearly prefer Leando over Gordon, btw). That's why Nash doesn't get much rest - Barbosa can't replace him, can't do what he does, since he's way better suited as our SG. Our production goes down each time Steve sits on the bench, and that's not a conincidence for sure.

Looking at the guys you mentioned, non of them can be considered better than Barbosa, of course, or even really good. That's the problem: we never had a solid backup PG. Parker and Eisley are crap, Banks makes too many errors on offense, and Knight couldn't even hit a shot if his life would depend on it.
I'm still convinced that we'd be at our best with Barbosa playing at SG full-time and a TRUE PG like Cassell taking over for Nash whenever he gets to rest. I'm pretty sure that's a situation Barbosa would benefit from, as well.

Oh, and it's not like I said we've had/have better PGs on our bench than Barbs, but the thing, as I already mentioned, is this: all of our backup PGs sucked, and therefor I can still hope for us to get a good one after all, right? It's furthermore not like I said we should trade Barbosa for Cassell, but for "a decent big man", which means I would consider trading Barbs if the right offer came along, and I mean a real good offer. I'm not in favor of a firesale, since I like the guy way too much; I'm only in favor of a deal that would clearly improve our team (also taking Barbosa's great contract into consideration), and so far I haven't seen one I would take.
