Micky Arison wanted to keep Posey
not to dwell in the past but...its interesting hearing our owners perspective on this mess of a team we have...
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/bask ... 9397.story
says that not keeping Pose is probably the biggest thing he was dissapointed with about our offseason.
he goes on to call Smush Parker a mistake (who signed off on that one? Pfund?)

I think this quote from another Sun-Sentinel tells us more about our owner http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/basketball/heat/sfl-flspskolnickspec19sbjan19,0,6929959.column
"Micky Arison might be forced to realize that he is really, really rich. For all the heat that H. Wayne Huizenga and Jeffrey Loria receive, why is none directed at the tycoon who owns the Heat? According to Forbes.com, Arison is worth roughly $5.8 billion, or $300 million more than Mark Cuban, Jerry Jones and Bob Kraft combined. No one is endorsing fiscal irresponsibility, but all this luxury tax talk is tiring."
He's way too cheap and the taxpayers gave him 2 stadiums within 10 years. I'm happy now he's maybe coming around to paying the tax if what he said is true.

He also said the whole getting under the tax is a cop out. I think it was a very strong article. For one thing, i think Micky should speak out alot more.He is the only owner to leave his team in Miami, panthers went to Davie,Dolphins left the bowl, marlins unsure. While micky has always kept the heat local. And thats one thing that makes a fan of the heat.

It's been said time and time and time again that since he helped put together the idea of a luxury tax, it would be hypocritical for him to start having to pay it.

And yet he was willing to go substantially over the cap to sign Mo Williams and over it a bit for Charlie Bell. He was unwilling to do a Mo deal for others perhaps, because he felt they were entirely role players, including guys like Kapono.
Riley spelled out the Posey problem. We couldn't pay him less the the $6M he got last year and expect that not to reflect in his attitude here. And paying him that is paying another $6 in tax hit plus whatever else. But Posey was huge in helping this team win, and there clearly is remorse that he isn't here, not only to help this team, but because he could have retired here and been a permanent fixture with the organization. Unless more DUIs and pantless photos were on the horizon.
I am certain the Heat will be aggressive on the onset of FA this year with their entire MLE. Same reason why I would have liked Shaq to use the hip to take the season off and get us a potential MLE injury exemption to use by October. Only problem is if the player who takes it doesn't take a player opt out in 2 years, with the wink wink of more to come, we have less maneuverability in 2010.
Also, should be noted that the Miami Arena finance plan was in effect before the Arisons were involved in securing the team and they were backers, but had smaller roles in the early days anyway.

Yeah I'm hoping too that he learn from a big mistake and will exceed the tax this time until Shaq is arround.
I hope he realize too that while he saves money because of the tax, he loss revenues by not making the playoffs.

This guy makes no sense. He talks about the fact Heat have to rebuild, but never has talked about either buying out Shaq, or trading him, that to me is the type of mentality that is wrong with the Heat. They don't look ahead, the farthest they seem to see ahead is next year. It seems the Heat is banking in getting a Duncan type of stud, that hardly ever happens, a great player, that is NBA ready from day one. My point is, even if we get a stud, the guy is going to take 2 to 3 years to really get his feet wet, by that time, Shaq is going to be retired, Wade is going to be in another team.

Then what would you do? Buyout Shaq and still have his 18-20 mil still on the cap without his production? Then the team is even worse. And who would realistically be available in a trade for Shaq that would make the team better right now or next season? This is the kind of stuff you have to think about before you try to criticize.

worse than the loss of revenue is the loss of prestige his franchise has suffered, from being argubaly the top franchise two years ago, with two sexy superstars, max national games on TV, everyone talking about them to THIS in so short a time.Hoops23 wrote:Yeah I'm hoping too that he learn from a big mistake and will exceed the tax this time until Shaq is arround.

I mean, you could still trade Shaq. Couldn't you? So if we can trade Shaq for a some players that their contracts end this year, we could start to really rebuild next year. The question then is, is Shaq tradeable asset that a team could want. Maybe a couple team could want him. That need one more piece. By the fact they don't even discuss this, seems to me that is the problem with the Heat. If they want to rebuild, but still have to pay 20 million for next 2 years for Shaq, I think that will be real big problem for the Heat's plan to rebuild.DBurks2818 wrote:Then what would you do? As we have seen, Shaq has played solid the last couple games, so I still think he is a tradeable asset, it just that the Heat need to start trying to rebuild, from today, not after Shaq is out, and my guess is Wade is going to bail out on the Heat, because the front office is showing signs of being so inept, and Wade wants to be part of a good team, and try to win titles, not just get big fat paycheck and play for a horrible team with no direction.

you do remember that Wade won a title with this inept team and terrible organization, right? I am betting Wade does. The Heat can pay more than any other team and sign him for longer than anyone else, and the same year can add 2 more max contracts, who Wade will recruit and approve himself.
He is going nowhere.
Also, Wade is not innocent in all of this. He is coming off major injury, he is also striking while the iron is hot, marketing-wise. Spreading himself thin, as per the ESPN article, because right after we won the title, right after he became the best player in the the world's eyes, the opportunities came knocking, not to mention his private dalliances. I can't blame him for taking this opportunity, because who knows when it comes again, but like Shaq, who became a champion in LA only when he stopped with the movies and rapping and other nonsense, when Wade settles down with that, it will be better for him.

You think two and half years from know, when the Heat is the joke of the league, Wade is going to remember his glory days. I doubt it, he is going to remember the three consecuitve years of full blown ineptitude by the Heat. He will take less money on a real team, then his shoe and other contracts will kick in in a bigger market, Wade could make more money outside basketball in a good team, than a joke of a team.Lane1974 wrote:you do remember that Wade won a title with this inept team and terrible organization, right? ok, we'll see who is right in 2.5 years, until then it's pointless whining about it
don't think keeping Wade happy and involved and in love with the team isn't Arison's and Riley's top priority. In free agency thois year, Wade came out in support of the front office, explaining that it was because his contract exploded was the reason they couldn't sign free agents. I think he knows the blueprint that happens in the 09-10 off season and signed off on it.
