Bargnani/Dalembert Trade

Post#1 » by augustine » Sat Jan 19, 2008 10:58 pm

Toronto Trades:
Andrea Bargnani
Rasho Nesterovich

Philadelphia Trades:
Samuel Dalembert
(Toronto also receives the rights to swap 1st round draft choices in the 2009 Draft)

Why for Philadelphia:
They get out of Dalembert's hefty contract
They get a Three point shooter, now that Korver is gone
They get to build around a young C with potential
They get cap space early, as Rasho expires at the end of next year

Why for Toronto:
They need to win now, and can't wait on Bargnani
They get the rebounder/blocker they need

Thoughts?

Yikes. I don't like it for Philly. Bargnani is playing like a bust, Rasho is, well, Rasho, and Sammy is the only one of the group who has been even remotely productive.

Edit: Crap, I completely missed the right to swap 1sts part for Philly. That makes this trade much, Much, MUCH worse. Not a snowball's chance in hell with that in there.

Toronto should do this, mostly for that rights to swap 1sts (meaning a top 10 pick, most likely) in 2009, but Raptors fans like his potential, and think he might turn out to be a good player, so they will say no.

The Sixers laugh at this with the pick swap included. I doubt the Sixers would do it even without that now that Sam seems to finally get it.

Bargnani has very low value right now, for being last year's #1 pick. He's still a young 7-footer with potential, but he can't pull TOR this deal. Honestly, I could see this deal netting maybe Collison, but Dalembert is a bit too rich. Plus, the swapping of picks is ludicrous.

Don't swap the picks and both teams probably take it.

I'd rather take the chance that Bargnani is a complete bust than pick up Dalembert's contract. Daly is fun to watch, but his bball iq is painfully low. I seriously doubt a team can contend with him and his big contract.

not anymore its not. daly has upped his iq this season. he is making better decisions. playing better defense. less goal tends, less fouls. overall better. he is no Einstein, but the days of his bball iq being "painfully low" are behind him.

I assumed that Philadelphia was in a rebuilding mode, and thus was hoping for young players and cap space. Is this not the plan in Philadelphia?

Would love this trade for philly. We're talking about a number one pick in his second season. (which has been filled with the coach hating him and injury concerns) We could actually play him at the position he needs to play, the PF, something that Toronto can't afford to do.

Dalembert is 26 & the Sixers have plenty of cap space without trading him.

And not to be a Bargnani apologist (I've been as hard on him as anyone), but being on a team with low expectations would likely do him a world of good. In the second half of last year, he played with a level of confidence that bordered on cockiness. After returning from injury and struggling, he has looked like a beaten man; because Toronto is in a playoff race, the need to win dictates that he be pulled when he makes mistakes, and he looks to be second-guessing absolutely every move he makes.

Not sure if I would make the trade simply because, as a rule, it's a bad idea to trade a player whose value is bottoming out for one whose value is at an all-time high, but I'm definitely more open to it than a couple months ago.

wow. whatcha been smokin?

daly's up to 10 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and nearly 12 points per game. he's 26 years old; got his first real coaching last year. he's one of the top 10 centers in the game, probably around 10 and improving. his $10 mil per year contract is looking better every game.

as soon as he learns a little jump hook, he'll be in the 15-18 ppg range.

why would anybody want bargnani or nesterovic?

Nobody wants them. Teams are willing to take a chance on Bargnani if the price is low enough though (he was the #1 pick unfortunately for Toronto). They certainly don't have the value of a starting & improving center.
