Pistons @ Bulls Postgame Thread: Can we use this momenteum?

Post#1 » by kulaz3000 » Sun Jan 20, 2008 3:59 am

Great first half. We played with urgency, played aggressively, and we attacked the rim relentlessly..

.. but of course we don't like holding onto big leads and we let the Pistons back in the game. But for once we held firm and we rallied behind good play by Thabo and the energy of Noah in the fourth quarter.

Thabo is just a totally different player. Untill he scores more, i don't think he is a starter, but boy, does he do so many things well. He is so versatile and smooth. He never seems like he over-expends his energy, he rebounds excellently for his size, is usually steady with the ball, and he is now beginning to slash to the game more often. But more important than the offensive aspect, his defense was great all game long. It was fun watching Thabo on Hamilton and making it difficult for him with Kirk having to tirelessly play defense against him all game long.

Our defense was alot better as well tonight. Good man to man defense, good rotations as well. But for once we weren't mismatched against the Pistons. We had Noah on Wallaces length off the bench, we also had Thabo able to hold his own against Hamilton and even Tyrus in the first quarter locked down on the Preymantis.

Can we use this to build momenteum for a little home stretch that we'll have the next few games?
Why so serious?

Did we use the momentum the first two times?

Thabo Sefolosha: Great basketball player or the greatest of all time?

I want to be the first to give Boylan (Pax) credit. They are starting to play the youngins and Ben Wallace looks really good on the sideline in the second half.

I also want to say that Noah and Sefolosha seemed like leaders on the court in the second half. They were vocal, played really hard and well. Noah even went directly to Thabo and whispered something to him as the Pistons dribbled the game out. There seems to be some good chemistry there.

I'm all for playing kids even if we do not make playoffs both Noah and Thabo had a very good game.

So wait, Thabo looks good when given an opportunity to play?

Ditto Noah?

Huh.

So what if we are matched up to Detroit in the playoffs? I think that we could upset any team in the East, but Boston. With the right matchups, we may make some serious noise.

Thabo plays like he does for my team on 2k8.

If we can find a way to get Tyrus minutes at the four/five, I will be very happy

Congrats to Thabo. He really deserves all the praise he is getting here. Looks like we're finally getting the Skiles out of him just like Tyson eventually did. I'm still hoping we package him for a Gasol. But nothing but respect for you, Thabo.

The good:

Boylan - Used Noah late and let Thabo play a lot. He did try to force feed Duhon in the game, but Duhon wasn't playing poorly at the time.

Gordon, Nocioni and Noah all played well.

The bad:

Tyrus Thomas really looks lost as a small forward.

.....

Generally, this was a pretty good game, top to bottom. There really were no big offensive lulls or tons of mistakes. Good defense and good offense for the most part.

I disagree with you about Thabo, kulaz3000.

You dont have to be a 20ppg scorer to validate you being a starter. Being a big defensive player validates you being a starter.

Like I said in the game thread, Thabo is an above avg rebounder - period. He is an above avg defender in the post.

Even if Thabo scored 6-8 ppg. If he is playing great defense, grabbing 7-8boards, getting a few steals thats a GREAT starter.

If you look around the league, there are plenty of teams who have one guy that doesnt score a ton, but is great at defense. Shane Battier,Bruce Bowen, Chuck Hayes,Jamario Moon etc etc

If Thabo goes along this track, he will be our best guard defender and it wont even be close. He has the capability to change the way the opposing player plays offense.

Tonight he basically shut down Prince and Hamilton.

Btw, lets not give credit to them for "playing youth" guys tonight were getting chances they normally wouldn't. When this team is healthy and the young guys still get run, then I will give credit.

Here's to Duhon for taking one for the team by benching himself.

I'm not going to give Boylan any credit for playing Thabo. He's getting his minutes because Deng, Hinrich, Noce, and now Duhon have all been in and out with injuries and illnesses. I'm not going to say, good job Jim, 'you didn't play Griffin.'
