If we would not have traded for shaq

Post#1 » by SportsPlaya11 » Sun Jan 20, 2008 7:05 pm

What if, what if, what if.

Look at where we are now. We would not have picked Dorell Wright and we would have gotten Jameer Nelson since we had a SF in Caron.

Our starting lineup would look something like this.

PG- Jameer Nelson
SG- Dwyane Wade
SF- Caron Butler
PF- Lamar Odom
C- ???

Thats the question. Who would be playing Center. Brian Grant retired. I still think those 4 would be dominant, but, without a major center we would not be amazing. We would not be talking about possibly drafting 1st overall, instead we would be contending for the division once again.

Plus, we wouldnt be paying shaqs huge contract. Meaning we couldve kept Kapno/Posey and made a splash in FA

And we wouldn't have won a championship. We'd be the Washington Wizards.

I'm OK with this year. The 'ship was worth it...

I tell you, I really do....Some people are just mind-numbingly back-wards in their thinking.

That was the exact response that came to my head when I saw this.

We'd have been

C - Blount / Doleac
PF - Odom / Grant
SF - Butler / Butler
SG - Wade / Jones
PG - Alston / Nelson

We would have been better than the Wizards. Possibly made a finals by now or even won a 'chip, have a bright future (would have Jordan Farmar or equivalent draft pick + Cook + Simien). Probably would have moved Jones or Grant when they were expiring for a star player. We'd be in contention right now.

But our team won a championship.

The worst thing that came from the Shaq trade IMO, was the change in attitude in Wade. Shaq's 'She'll be right' attitude really has rubbed off on Wade unfortunately. We'd probably have a hungrier Wade if Shaq wasn't here.

Yes for sure we would had Odom/Wade/Butler, they all would play for peanats. You all past lovers forget that Grant/Jones were earning 29 Million Dollars together and Arison is "no tax lover".

If people think we would be like the Wizards, I dont' think so. For one, the Heat would have much better Defense than the Wizards. Another thing, we would be extremelly well rounded, but wouldn't rely on three pointers all day. We would be a quite unique team.

And yeah, Wade would be quite hungrier, he would be playing with a something to prove attitude. It does seem Shaq brought the good with the bad to Miami.

I heard it was Shaq who told Damon Jones to turnover the ball against the Pistons in game 7 of the ECF.

Eh, last season Jones ($14.5 mill), Butler ($7.5 mill), Wade ($3.5 mill) and Odom (12.5 mill) would have been $38 million. Grant woulda been waived in the amnesty rule thing, costing us no tax. Wade's extension woulda kicked in this season as Jones ended. We'd be in great financial position. I'd still do the trade anyway.

I posted this before on this subject matter:

14 of the 30 teams in the league have NEVER won a Championship. Ask any of them if they would do the Shaq trade.

It has also been over 20 years for 8 of the 16 who have won and for 6 of the 16 its been over 30 years! Ask them if they would do the Shaq trade.

So ask yourself again, Would you do the Shaq trade? No brainer, YES!

If we didn't do the Shaq trade, we would have had a really nice team now, but no guarantees of a championship. My guess is we wouldn't yet.

Did we get lucky versus Dallas? Maybe. But it still says NEVER next to Dallas's name on the NBA Champions list.

What if we managed to sign Brand in the first place....
What if Harold Miner lived up to the hype....

Wat if Luke Jackson became a allstar when we sign him and lead us to the Chip?

Return to Miami Heat
