For LA
Pick up Artest who will take them to the next level. They will probably play artest primarily as a 4. When Bynum comes back, Artest/Kobe/Bynum make one hell of a scary trio. This is also a move aimed at financial flexibility....giving them an extra 11 mill or so in expirings. By my count this leaves them with about 43 million on the cap for next off season, giving them roughly 14 mill to make a huge splash. Elton Brand? Gilbert Arenas?

For Jersey: Tries to salvage their season. Gets a couple guys who will come in and contribute for a bunch of guys that arent contributing.

For SAC Gets loads of young talent for a guy thats leaving anyways.

No thanks.

You dump a bad contract, get an upgrade, and open up cap space to get a big name FA

Artest leaving is no guarantee, but on another note, what's the point of getting two young PG's--especially with Beno here? I could understand maybe getting one, but the other one would have to be exchanged for something else IMO.

Edit: I'd much, much rather have Sean Williams than the Marcus-Nenad combo.

Jason Collins is not.
We don't get capspace of any significance with this trade. Unless Artest opts out, in which case its absolute crap for us.

In which case this is even better. You get Artest for a push deep in the playoffs this year, and then you lock up a guy like Brand or Arenas, or make an offer to a guy like Biedrins or Josh Smith.

That's a bad deal for the Nets. Lakers get Artest AND dump Radmonovic?

This is great for the Lakers in terms of value alone.

However, I agree that this is a poor fit.

We are left with no serviceable PFs. Magloire CANNOT play the 4 in the triangle, and employing Kwame there is more than the laughable. Collins just might be worse than Kwame offensively, and that's impressive.

We are left with four centers, 3 small forwards, and 1 PF in Ronny Turiaf who can't stay on the floor.
