Brad Miller to LA
Motivation:
Sacramento dumps long-term salary for a chance to rebuild quicker. Bibby might be moved to CLE anyway and Ron Artest can opt out next year. In this deal, Sacto becomes major players in 2009 with plenty of PF for Spencer Hawes to work with. Its not like they can grab the 8th spot this year anyway.
LA Lakers hold the fort with an above-average FC in Brad Miller that would not be rendered useless when Bynum comes back. In 7 wks time, Brad can play starting PF and backup C for the Lakers. He is also a good passer and has an outside shot that is essential for a Tri PF/C.
Offer:
Kwame Brown + Sasha Vujacic + 08 1st unprotected for Brad Miller.
Rosters:
LA Lakers
Fisher / Farmar / Crittenton
Kobe / Coby
Walton / Ariza
Odom / Turiaf / Radmanovic
Miller / Bynum / Mihm
Sacramento Kings
Bibby / Udrih / Sasha
Martin / Salmons / Douby
Artest / Garcia /
Moore / Thomas / Rahim
Hawes / Kwame

Umm, yes they can take that 8th seed.
This is my response on the other thread:
We are decimated by injuries this year. (Losing 4 legit starters: Bibby/Martin/Artest/SAR) Also, Artest didnt play for the first 7 games due to that suspension. Brad Miller really stepped it up this season. The bench really stepped it up. Salmons, Garcia, and Beno are the ones improved alot. We should be proud where we at right now. Losing our best players should guaranteed us for the #1 pick but we are not. We fight hard every night despite competition. We dont get blown out like others assume...
When this team is healthy we are a playoff team (6/7/8 seeds) look back when we were truly healthy. It was that one half of the season when we got Artest. We were like 28-12 for that last half of the season and went to the playoffs... The last 2 years IMO were flukes due to key injuries in the worst situations... When we get back our team, we will make a last rally to the playoffs...
BTW the Kings decline that offer...

Kings can still take the 8th seed. But they need to make a VERY HARD push to get that 8th seed, and unfortunately I dont think they will. Unless the teams in front of them fall back.
Anyway, it's funny some/most LA fans would not even give up Kwame for Miller before the season start. Now they even throw in a 1st.

Umm, what?
The difference between Miller and Kwame is not worth a 1st round pick. That is before getting into the fact that Kwame is a decent sized expiring contract and Miller is on an ugly contract.
Miller>Kwame
Kwame's trade value>>>Miller's trade value

Wow, you actually think a late pick is overpaying?

Why is that funny? Miller has raised his value considerably since the start of the season...after the end of last year the Kings might have been lucky to be offered expirings.
Player value can change over time...nothing odd about that.

Not to mention Laker fans had no idea their team would be a contender.

A Kwame for Miller straight up is overpaying because better options can be had at the deadline for a big expiring contract. JO, Gasol...
But there's 2 types of expirings: 1) An useful expiring ala Jamison 2) An useless expiring ala Brown
We need an expiring that contributes ON court not only for the cap...Look at how many Lakers fans HATE Brown... To me, I share the same views of Smills concerning Kwame Brown...He sucks!

Oh geez! Are you kidding me? Kwame for Miller is overpaying? Considering Lakers need help at the center since Bynum/Mihm are out, they'd glad they can get Miller for Kwame.Cammo101 wrote:-= original quote snipped =-

How the Lakers going to get Gasol or JO with Kwame's expiring? Since Bynum is untouchable, they dont have the young pieces to attach to Kwame expirings to even make Indy or Memphis bite.

Useful expirings are counter productive because if you covet expirings then you are rebuilding and winning is not the primary goal. An expiring is an expiring.

Like in the other thread, we will give this roster one more try this season (Or probably on more year), if they are not successful, I expect major hauling IMO...

The Lakers may very well do this out of a knee jerk need help now mindset, but either way it is overpaying. LA can package Odom, Crittenton, Farmar, Walton...they have the pieces to make a run at JO or Pau. Especially JO.

I appreciate the courtesy in explaining your side but I don't think the Kings can grab the 8th. As for the offer being declined, I respect that.
Here's why I say the Kings won't make it to 8th (let alone 7th or 6th):
Phoenix sits atop the West with a 29-12 record. With the Northwest division winner as the sure fourth, the Mavs, Hornets, Lakers and Spurs are merely 1.5 games behind the conference leader. Safe to say, we already have 6 places LOCKED for the playoffs.
Portland is playing inspired basketball. With Oden out for the season and having a relatively easy 1st half sked, I can see Utah stealing that spot from them with Houston lurking as the 10th seed. The bottom half of the West is comprised of GSW, Utah, Portland, Houston and Sacramento.
IF Sacramento plays well enough (meaning winning 2/3 of their games from hereonin), they will sport a record of 28-15 in the next 43 games. Add that to the current standing, Sacramento will have a record of 45-37.
Houston is sporting 21-19. If they go 50% in their remaining games, they will sport 42-40.
Utah is sporting 23-18. If they go 50% in their remaining games, they will sport 43-39.
Golden State is sporting 25-17. If they go 50% in their remaining games, they will sport 45-37.
Portland is sporting 24-16. If they go 50% in their remaining games, they will sport 45-37.
Unless one of the six on top will relinquish in part their games to winning less than 50% of their remaining games, they will not be in danger of losing a playoff spot.
Based on this, it will be:
GSW 45-37, Portland 45-37, Utah 43-39, Houston 42-20 and Sacramento (who has to win 67%) 45-37.
Using the numbers above, that's a very unlikely situation. Utah will win at least 50%, and so will Houston. In my ranking, they are even 4th and 5th in the West respectively. Due to unforeseen injuries and all that jazz, they are somehow playing for a playoff spot.
I can see only Portland NOT WINNING 50% of their remaining games due to inexperience and strength of schedule.
So kingsfan10, I respectfully disagree that the Kings are a 6/7/8 seed. They MIGHT grab a spot but ONLY IF they win 70% of their remaining games. In my book, highly unlikely.

And let the overrating of late 1st round picks commence! You all should really venture into the real world sometime. See the REAL worth of a late 1st round pick. Sure l'd like the Kings to get another one but c'mon....look at recent history for example. What kind of deals were 1st round picks traded in, the last 3-4 for example?
