New Jersey/Memphis/Toronto

Post#1 » by Bentley1225 » Mon Jan 21, 2008 4:19 am

I just dont see a fit with Carter in Indiana as the Pacers already have Dunleavy and Granger in improving players........

The Nets need more depth overall. They need both some backcourt and frontcourt depth moving forward.

The Grizz need a legit secondary scorer. Certainly Gay can develop into one but The Grizz have to do something to make Gasol more effective.

The Raptors need a big body down low to grab some board and plus up the middle.

This is a blockbuster deal, but I think it makes sense.

To Memphis
-Vince Carter (3 years, $48.8 million), 31 years old.
-Malik Allen (expiring), 29 years old
-Jorge Garbojosa (1 year, $4.3 million), 30 years old
-$1 million cash from Raptors

To New Jersey
-Mike Miller (2 years, $18.75 million), 29 years old
-Stromile Swift (1 year, $6.2 million, *TO*) 28 years old
-Juan Dixon (expiring), 29 years old
-Maceo Baston (1 year, $1.9 million), 32 years old

To Toronto
-Jamal Magloire (expiring), 29 years old
-Damon Stoudamire (1 year, $4.6 million), 34 years old

Why?

The Nets certainly do not have enough depth upfront and I think its a further risk to trade for O'Neal with his contract, current production and injuries. Swift, I think would benefit from Kidd as Swift would be more effective in the open court playing the 4. Miller provides some scoring still at the 2 and I think he would benefit with Kidd as well in drive and kick situations. This puts the Nets in an ideal FA position once Kidd is off the books.

The Grizzlies need to determine what direction theyre going in. Getting Carter gives them a stronger balance offensively between Gasol down low and Gay and Carter on the perimeter. I think bring in Carter will help Gasol in terms of double teams in having 2 slashers in Carter and Gay. Stoudamire is a disctraction and if they feel Garbojosa will be healthy next season, he can join Gasol and Navarro to build a strong Spanish bond.

The Raptors need immediate PG help and should get an insurance policy if Calederon is offered lucrative money on the FA market. Magloire provides a plug down low 12-15 mins a night to get defensive boards.
