This thread has really impressed upon me that our future is not nearly as bright as I thought 3 months ago. From TJ's inevitable retirement to Bargs' inevitable journey to scrubland, we have really nothing to trade to get what we need. It seems the next couple of years we will have to heavily rely on Bosh and Jose as starters to carry this team until BC can find some diamonds in the rough as we'll never be bad enough to get lottery picks. Actually considering the heavy minutes both will have to play for the foreseeable future and the resulting injuries from that we may have lottery picks sooner rather than later.

The next year or 2 will show if BC is as good as we all think he is because he's gonna have to weave some magic.

Looking at Kwame's stats, he doesn't look all that bad. He's rebounding the ball, and pretty efficient from the field. He wouldn't be so bad for the MLE, but I don't really see the point in having both him and Rasho (not to mention Garbo and Humphries). Kwame clearly isn't good enough to give us much more than anything we currently have. Might be a decent trade asset to add if can improve over play in LA.

Woah, nelly! You make quite a few suppositions there. It's far from inevitable that TJ will have retire soon, and even further from inevitable that Bargs is on a "journey to scrubland". A little patience here can go a long way - let's not forget that we're still in a great position to make the playoffs despite playing without key pieces of our lineup for considerable stretches.

There have been several reports that we're searching for some PG help to ease the burden on Jose, so don't think that BC is unaware of the minutes he's logging. I don't think anyone's under the impression that Dixon is a suitable option at backup PG.

It would be nice if Bargs would start to resemble the player we saw late last season, and maybe he still will. A productive Bargs will help cut Bosh's minutes a bit. But if Bosh is going to continue to lead this team, he's going to have to keep showing that he can put the guys on his back and play more minutes if that's what it takes to get a W.

I remain confident that BC will do what he can to address the areas in which we require help.

Oh I agree we're a playoff team but with Jose and Bosh we only have 2 bonafide starters and I don't see where the other pieces are coming from to take the next step or lest become destined to be the dreaded "treadmill team".

As for Ford and Bargs, I admire your optimism but the chances of Ford not getting another stinger in the next 2 years are, let's say, not too good. He can try and be careful but you forget in the heat of the moment and join in that seemingly innocent loose ball fight like he did with Vince in the playoffs and then it's sayonara. As for bargs, well, enough said.

At the beginning I didn't foresee Ford's career going down to 2 strikes and, although not a big fan of Bargs, I didn't foresee him channeling Hoffa this season. This season just proved that he will never be that all star big man that we needed to make the next step. He may become an average player but that won't get us anywhere and no one can deny BC was heavily dependent on Bargs becoming a force for us to succeed in the future.

Let's just say that in the next few years BC is gonna earn his salary to get us over the hump.

i think as tj is out he has low trade value but he is a point guard in a point guard starved league and he is one good playoff series away from being a guy who could command something on the market. guys like nene, tj himself, hughes, and okafor were all full of injury problems yet teams were willing to give them huge long term deals. there are a lot of playoff teams right now that are dying for a point guard.
Sam wasn't the solution, but he wasn't the problem either

Tradable assets: Everything but the Bosh

In order of likelihood that they get traded:

Dixon, Graham, Delfino, Bargnani

Can't see Calderon going anywhere while TJ is of questionable status.

The one trade that I'd like to see is Bargnani for Tyrus Thomas. I don't anything about the character of either one, but I'd rather watch a Keon Clark style player than an Okur style player.

The only assets you may get for equal or better value right now are Kapono, Delfino and Hump. Kapono has established himself in the league and has enough of a reputation that a team looking for a shooter might ante up to get him. Delfino was undervalued in Detroit and a team might take a flyer on his potential. Same goes for Humps. Moon might also fall in that category if he wasn't so damn old yet so damn cheap. At this point, he's more valuable to the Raptors as he gets more time to prove his value. You might get better bang for the buck on Moon after this year.

Player you may get for lateral movement include Rasho and Parker. Parker's age will hinder you from getting anything more valuable. You're looking at middle-tier talent at best.

Players with minimal value include Dixon, Graham, Martin, and Baston. No matter how much of an upgrade you get, you're still going to get back scrubs.

Players with declining value include Garbajosa and Ford, for obvious injury concerns, and Bargnani, because of his struggles. You don't want to trade any of these because you'll get low value and if they successfully come back from their injury, you'll kick yourself.

Player you can't trade are Bosh, Calderon, and Moon. Bosh because he's the franchise, and no one will trade you another franchise player for him right now. Calderon and Moon because they're more valuable to us right now than anything we can get. Two of these three players will bring decent return, but I can't see it improving the team at the moment unless it's one of those packages you can't turn down. If TJ can come back healthy, though, then one of the two PGs automatically becomes trade bait.

ummm, ya, thats why i proposed trying to get jerome james, or someone like him to play C and magloire as backup. guess you missed that part.

I think the part that everyone is missing, is the fact that appearently Jerome James is not the worst player in the NBA.

The fact is that everyone knows he is one of the worst players in the league, and for you to see him as a starter is a little.... flawed.

Unfortunately with TJ's injury, Calderon is now indispensable. Calderon would be the biggest trade asset if TJ is healthy.

Now we would need to sign or match any deal for Calderon, instead of using him as a trade asset.

actually, i think that we have more than 2 legit starters, unless you meant to say that we have two legit all-stars on the team (Bosh and Jose).

I think a lot of teams would love to have AP in their starting rotation. I also think that Moon is a solid player - maybe not a starter on all teams, but at least on 1/3 of the league's teams.

other assets we have include Delfino (expiring contract and a good player), Kapono, Graham (cheap and still has "potential") and Baconator. and some team, i am sure, will be asking about Dixon. instant offense.

finally, i am willing to bet that, if you dangled Andrea as trade bait, the anti-Andrea contingency would be shocked to see what we would get in return.

FYI - we have over $20M in expiring contracts once the offseason starts.

really? I thought we only had about 7 mill, and if u include delfino around 10...do we have some other cap relief? Rasho has a player option, I dont think he's gonna walk away from 8.4 mill.

That's the key, IMO; we'll be close to capped out in '09 off-season even if we allow Rasho/Garbo/Parker to expire, but we are probably in the driver's seat in terms of our ability to put together a compelling '08 deadline package for a big name; a number of teams might be looking to clear capspace to go after the boatload of good free agents available after the season, and we're well positioned to take advantage.

Heck, it's feasible that we can put together a deal that consists of nothing but positive assets (TJ, Bargs, our 1st, etc.) and expirings, and still take back not only a max contract, but aid a team in dumping additional. The ability to take back a bad contract could be enough to get us a bit of a steal next year...here's hoping, at least.

You're not serious, are you? You're talkin g about a $35 million deal if you include those guys in ONE deal. Who do you have in mind? I can see it being broken down into two deals, but not one. Which team would have a difference maker in their prime/late prime that would command that kind of blockbuster deal and want to rebuild at the same time?

Rasho is not going to opt out of his contract.
