Does Tyrus Thomas have a dark side?
I'd like to preface this post by saying that Tyrus is my favorite player in the league.
But doesn't anyone here think that he may have some serious issues that are preventing him from getting the minutes necessary to develop a player of his potential and rawness?
Reasons why I believe there is something going on that we don't know about:
- He was given the starting spot to start the season, but lost it.
- Sam Smith frequently writes that he's a horrible human being. Yet, he went against his own agenda to propose that Thomas get more time because it just seems like the logical thing to do.
- There was work ethic questions that arose after he was drafted.
- Scott Skiles constantly questioned his work ethic and his effort during games.
- The "Free Money" quote, a spectacularly bizarre and disinterested comment.
- The fact that he was the second pick in a draft and still can't get any tick despite his high PER towards the second-half of last season.
- Reports of the Bulls trying to unload him.
- His lack of intensity during warm-ups, and his lack of focus in some games.
Isn't there a chance that there is something internal going on that is preventing Ty Thomas from getting a real shot? Is Tyrus preventing himself from getting a real shot? Isn't it illogical to assume total incompetence on the part of the coaching staff?
I just feel like there is something we're missing here. A horrible attitude, a screw loose, slept with someone important's daughter? Or he just hasn't played well and can't get minutes because he's not any good (yet). I think his play has been poor in limited minutes, but he is a project of high import. Giving him minutes would surely please Paxson, a thought which must've crossed the minds of Scooter and Jimbo.
Anyway, my hypothesis is crazy ****, but I hope we fix it and give him a little leeway because I really like the guy.

You're probably reading into it too much. It is certainly possible he has some deep issues, but I think it is just as likely Loul Deng has deep issues. It is almost a random type of thing and even people who seem on the surface to be normal could be **** up deep down.
More than likely it just has to do with the fact that he is a raw project only in his second year.

He's not 'very immature'. Nothing he's done is 'very immature'. It's just Sam Smith trying to sell the crap he writes, Skiles being a prick and Tyrus learning how to deal with the media. Other than that, I haven't seen or heard anything that would say TT is immature and/or detrimental to the team. I know for several other players on our team that are more of that if we're making generalizations like that.

Joe Smith and Andres Nocioni are arguably our best two players this year and they play power forward.
They tried to start Tyrus this year but instead Joe Smith and Noc have looked better.
They have been trying Tyrus at the 3 and he hasn't looked all that great.
At this point it is hard to sit Joe and Noc to develop Thomas. If we move a PF at the trade deadline and it isn't Tyrus then maybe he'll get some more consistent minutes but until then he'll keep getting spot minutes until he earns more.

Tyrus didn't lose anything...

Kirk 9pts 5.5 asts 3 TO's and 29% shooting
Ben G 18pts 2 asts 3 TO's and 35% shooting
Luol 14pts 5 rebs 2 TO's and 44% shooting
Ben W 3pts 5 rebs 1blk .5 stl and 29% shooting
While Tyrus produced the following numbers -
Tyrus averaged - 9pts 7rebs 1.8blks 1.8 asts 1stl and shooting 46% in 27minutes a game as a starter
I'm tired of people saying Tyrus "lost" his starting position - thats patently false.
