JJ as point guard?

Post#1 » by euromagic » Sun Jan 20, 2008 10:30 pm

This is probably insane but does anybody think JJ could handle the point guard spot? He seems to have a pretty high bb IQ, and he'd be an extra threat at the 3pt line. His defense is spotty, but its not like jameer and carlos are lockdown defenders either....

jj has the worst handles of any guard on this team and lacks the lateral quickness to guard SG so how could he guard even faster point guards.

I'm not sure about the court vision he seems to make smart plays in the limited time that he gets, and at the beginning of the season when he actually got some playing time he seemed to make the extra pass to dwight.
I haven't seen him play enough in the league regarding his handle, but it can't be worse than dooling right?

I'm not saying make him our starting pg. but give him about 10 mins a game and see what he can do with it.

He seems to make fairly good passes, but his handles, although not at Ariza level of suckage, aren't great. Also he's had zero experience playing the point.

We may be able to play JJ at the point if Hedo plays point forward. JJ would defend PG's but Hedo would get us in the offense and bring the ball up most of the time. I think this could work for stretches but I wouldn't do it for minutes every night.

Dooling actually plays D, yeah he'd be a lot worse than Dooling. JJ is worthless to this team.

It depend if you have someone like Jamal Crawford or Brandon Roy at SG next to him then I guess it could work.

Quickness and handles - a problem
Court vision - no problem at all. Makes some pretty good passes that blows that theory up.

Overall. JJ at the point? outside of a few choice situations - probably not.

1. of course.
2. he can always guard a certain point on the court.
3. incredible frivolousness.
only 10 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists shy of yet another triple double - anonymous

Not a chance without another bona fide facilitator on the court like Cammo said.
Basketball is driven by three principles:

1) Movement 2) Application of fundamentals 3) Predictability

Are you talking about JJ or Carlos and Jameer?
