McGrady wants to give up All-Star spot

Post#1 » by etopn23 » Mon Jan 21, 2008 10:07 pm

Tracy McGrady, second among Western Conference guards in All-Star voting, said Thursday he would like to give his spot to a more deserving player. That, however, is not an option the NBA allows.

"Any time you are chosen to become an All-Star, especially having had the season I've had, there's other guys definitely having better seasons than me," McGrady said. "If it was my choice, I would select another guy to participate in my spot because I see other guards that are having outstanding seasons."

Players who are able to play prior to the All-Star Game, which takes place Feb. 17 in New Orleans, are required to play in the game.

Saw this posted on the Rockets forum. How often does a player offer to give up his spot?

hes pulling a VC
Dwight Howard on his FT struggles:

"I just think everybody needs to stop talking about it," Howard said. "There's more to life than free throws."

You can't give up the spot, but you can pretend you're injured.

Isn't he hurt, anyway? So, either way, he won't be playing given his status atm.

Well he just led the Rockets to a win over the Spurs so he's pretty capable of playing atm.

Classy move. I'm sure he can claim injury anyway. I doubt the Rockets would want him playing and risking further injury anyway.

I stand corrected.

I thought he's still out of action, but I guess I was wrong.

He's come back the past two games and played very well today especially in the 4th.

He doesn't deserve it though and it's a good gesture considering all the guards in the Western Conference. Because at this point either Baron or Roy gets snubbed and both belong there over Mac.

Anyway, he's right, he doesn't deserve it, I think it's a good gesture. Props to him. All these asians voting in Rockets players is annoying. I don't like fan voting at all.

Might be wrong, but didn't Carter change his mind at the last second because of peer pressure?

Not sure, I'll look it up.

^^ Yes Carter had pressure to give it to MJ so he pretty much had to.

He should give up his spot. Or at the very least, relegate himself to the bench.
