When your role players are having a bad night. Namely Alston...you gotta have your stars take over and McGrady and Yao did just that with a little help defensively from Scola.
We didn't play well and certainly have to play better when we see em again on Wednesday but it was great to see McGrady take over in the 4th for a while there. We gotta find a way to get get guys like Brooks and Head in the game now that McGrady is back. Those guys are key to our success and they have to get on the floor. I for one think Alston gets too much minutes when McGrady is playing. With McGrady Alston's mins have to go down b/c you gotta get Head in the game. In a game we needed shooting from the perimeter it was nuts to see Head sitting on the bench when he could have had some of Alston's mins.
Anyway bad win but a win nonetheless. Good to see McGrady playing well on one leg. Great all around game from Yao. Good defense from Scola and timely scoring by Bonzi and Landry. But we have to play better if we wanna catch up and make the playoffs.

Yao played well, McGrady looked much better in the second half and had a good overall game.
What happened to Scola's shot? It has been failing him the last two games; same with Battier's shot out of the corner.
We played just well enough for the win. This type of effort probably won't be enough in Seattle, where this young team can feed off crowd energy to come back in the fourth. We'll need a better effort when we go up there.

Alright win, need to play much better though.
Yao was dominant, scoring inside and rebounding. McGrady scored 9 of our 19 points in the 4th and made some good decisions. Good game by both of the stars.
Defense was MUCH better in the second half, one of the main reasons why we won this game.
Alston was terrible, hopefully he cam rebound. Bonzi played well though, we only shot 42% as a team.
Damn Portland won on an Outlaw GW

My thoughts:
-Another impressive defensive effort by T-Mac. He's hustling out there.
-We can't keep going on offensive droughts with Yao on the court. We give up the mid-range shot off the high pick-and-roll all day so we have to be able to score. In Shaq's LA days they gave up the same play but their offense was unstoppable.
-The chemistry is still not there, the passing is still not crisp, and there is still too much dribbling. T-Mac is still hobbling though and his scoring is a big part of the offense.
-How is it possible that Alston seems to be getting more minutes with T-Mac back?! I'm not sure if anybody can dig up the data but Alston seems to get a lot less efficient in more minutes. I like Alston but I don't see the benefit of having Alston out there with T-Mac, put in Head or Brooks.
-I don't see how Landry won't be supplanting Hayes by next season.
-We escaped with a victory from a horrible team. Sonics have lost like 8 of their last 9 by double digits. The team still looks very mediocre.

i just got back from the game....it was a blast.
during warmups chuck hayes was making his shots....lol
and he was also hitting his free-throws. (that was funny)
as for the game, we still need close out games
landry is gonna have a nice future with us....adelman must be drunk in not letting him backup scola and bench hayes.

McGrady has to find his place with this team and IMO its pretty much 4th quarter finisher and playmaker. Thats where the majority of our struggles happen. We don't get enough good looks and we don't take good care of the ball in 4th quarter meltdowns. McGrady can fix that. Save his energy. Let Yao carry you for 3 quarters and put it away in the 4th.
That kind of play is what makes T-Mac look like a Kobe with Tayshaun Prince legth at times - loved it.
If Mac can play more of a Head/Bonzi/Battier game through the first three quarters, and only let the dominate scorer show up at the finish line, this team could be special.
Play of the ball, move without the ball and focus on defense... untill the fourth, here Mac just goes for the kill, and hopefully Yao has fouled out the interior D by that time
