Let's Revisit R.Jefferson for Deng
Slashing is our problem. Scoring is another. Defense is a third. Jefferson is good at all three.
A few years ago this trade was a hot rumor but Paxson passed for the usual reasons. With the Nets being as mediocre as ever and with Carter, Kidd, and Jefferson all alternating in rumors they may be open to a trade. The Nets are currently on a 5 game losing streak.
Jefferson's injuries look like they're in the past. He's played the most games for the Nets this season while leading them in scoring at 23.9. His rebounding numbers are low. I haven't seen too much of the Nets this year, so perhaps they are a result of him playing more minutes at the two. Regardless, it's time for the Bulls to stop being so picky and actually make a move.
Edit: Something like Deng, Smith, and Griffin would work financially. I love Smith, but we need to shake things up. If we're losing and we can't trade Wallace, we may as well free minutes up for Thomas and Noah.

The time has passed for possible Deng trades I believe. I also think this year with his play remaining static, its quite possible some of the luster is off his potential around the league.
I have little doubt that he is going to be a Bull for at least several more years. I am just worried about how big a chunk of change we are going to give him next year. For being a team's best player you certainly wouldn't want to hem yourself in too much in addition to what we are already paying Kirk.

i'm a bit on bullzman23's side.
I just don't think Deng really helps our offense being dependent on screens and coming off them. Plus, when he's dribbling the ball trying to post up, I just don't feel confident him doing that. I've seen numerous times where he gets it stripped. At least with RJ we add some athleticism and food speed on D and on some leak outs for easy 2s.
I know its going to sound like beating a dead horse, but if there was a way to swindle the Sixers out of Iguodala, then I'm fully on board. He can at least set up for others. His only weakness is paying attention to some defensive details (i.e. scouting reports) and working on his jump shot (which has improved). Dude also is very capable of drawing the fouls and connecting at the line.

You're thinking outside the box and looking to address some important needs, which is cool, but I disagree with the deal, even though I like RJ a lot. He's a fine and smart player, but I find it really hard to believe his chronic injuries are a thing of the past. He's healthy now, and he's good when he's healthy, but he is not a go-to guy or a franchise player. He's never had to deal with the burden of being a focal point of a franchise. It sounds an awful lot like adding another #2 guy to a team of #2 and #3 guys. If we're going to deal off Deng, it needs to be for a difference maker. I understand your point about slashing, but Jefferson isn't really that much of an upgrade over Deng overall, a lateral move at best, and when consider the age of the players, it doesn't make much sense.
I do agree, however, with your point about pickiness and patience. It's time to strike on something.

Ok. Why?
I don't think it addresses our problems and it's basically making a trade just to make a trade and shake things up. Which might not be a bad idea, but why trade Deng if we're doing that?
Also, I really am not a RJ fan.
We need to fix the backcourt and get a low post player.. Substituting Deng for RJ doesn't fix the mess that is around them.

I'd argue that attacking the hoop is as big of a problem, if not bigger, than the ones you mentioned. We're getting production from our front-court. Gordon has played extremely well off of the bench and Sefolosha is about to turn the corner. That problem is internally improving.
Another thing. Richard Jefferson averages 10 free-throws per game.
If we had a player who could get to the line ten times a game, that would dramatically change our team. If a guy can get to the line that much, I think he can be a first option.

I know mix's don't show a ton and that some of this footage is really old now, but look at how he fearlessly attacks the hoop. That skill alone would make this team significantly better. Add ten free-throws to that and a ton of our problems go away.

Quite honestly, it just doesn't seem like Maggette is on the trading block. They've held on to him for this long, and Dunleavy may dislike him but management seems to love him as they refuse to trade him. He has a reasonable contract and serious talent. If they were looking to move him, I believe he'd be gone by now. Plus, I personally wouldn't want to go into free-agency with Deng, Gordon, and Maggette all looking for raises.
