Will a lottery pick even help at this point?
Although this team sucks - they're still going to win enough games to keep us from getting a top 5 pick.. Which means we most likely won't get a franchise player via the draft. Which is a problem.
If we end up picking say 9-12; is it even going to help us? Assuming we draft a backcourt player like Budinger - how is he going to get minutes? With Hinrich, Gordon, Thabo, etc.. And if we add a front court player how is that player supposed to get minutes with Tyrus, Noah, Wallace, Smith, Gray etc..
I don't see a lot of scenario's where Pax can actually keep the pick. Unless, he's just going to collect another trading chip.
How many more assets does Paxson need to collect before he actually makes a trade?

Well lets see we are competing for the 7th - 10th pick right now... If we some how get the seventh spot in the lottery and luck helps us, like the Blazers last year by getting a top three, well then yeah I think it will help us alot.
And rightnow Mayo is ranked like what tenth? He loos like a project right now, but I think he will bud into a real superstar.

I think that if you take high school players out of the equation (since they can no longer be drafted), guards have been the the players who, if drafted outside of the top 5, have had the best % of becoming stars. SFs would be close. We don't need a SF, so I would say that if we want to roll the dice we trade one of Kirk and BG (I would rather trade Kirk) and go for a guard who might become a real star.
Of course, I'm just throwing stuff out there b/c I don't know what else to say and feel like puking.

I'll be the pessimist and say that the star(s) that we are looking for will be taken in the draft before we pick. We will most likely be close to playoff contention, otherwise known as no man's land. Mayo and others will be gone by then.
I may be wrong, and we may do worse than I expect. In that case, we will obviously have a better shot at getting someone like Batum. Luck may also play a factor. We haven't ever really had it in these drafts.

we've had 2 lotto picks in the last 2 years and they haven't helped all that much..i dn why another would do it.
I think its just a crapshoot but the way i see it..making the playoffs is always a good thing. Experience plus value of players goes up. If we make the playoffs i feel like we could do more with our players in terms of trading than we could if we're a lotto team.
