Philly & Warriors make switch

Post#1 » by Philly Family » Tue Jan 22, 2008 2:44 am

This is going to help Wariors push for a top seed in the West and move the Sixers toward a top lottery pick...From what I have read in the Philly forum we need a sg to play along side T. Young who can shoot the three and open the middle so this trade favors Warriors so pick need to come Philly way

Philly send AI2 and Reggie Evans to Warriors

Golden State send P O'brien, Mikael Pietrus and Marco Belineli to Philly

Warriors get a rebounder in Evans and another wing player who would thrive in the uptempo style of Warriors and would need to resing him in off season along with Ellis

Philly get a young big in P O'Brien who maybe with some Pt could be a player and a young Sg in Belineli who can shoot the three and at 6'5 is a good size and also Pietus who if he wanted to resign would also be a young multi talented player

Again this favors GS alot but also help Philly dump $$ and get a possible young Sg

Philly EASILY says hell nah. They love Iggy and won't trade him for could be. This is dangerously close to being locked.

I can see Philly Doing this if you switch out O Bryant with Wright and add a pick

I cant see Philly doing and deal with GS that involves Iggy. The only players that are equal or above value on GS are Davis, Jackson, and those guys don't fit what Philly does.

So trading Iguodala to save money and get a much lesser prospect at the SG position?

There's much easier way to accomplish that, such as trading Miller, rather than trading our current center piece.

I'd say that for the Sixers to consider this deal, at least Wright would have to be included. I'm not sure, though, whether Wright, Pietrus, O'Bryant - Iguodala, Evans would be enough for Philly to consider this, but I doubt the Warriors would add Belinelli, as well.
What do the Golden State fans think about this variation? Belinelli or a 1st round pick are the only additional parts I could see the Sixers be interested in (besides Biedrins and Ellis, of course, but they aren't available, I'd say). Maybe the Sixers could add another piece, as well, if it's necessary, not sure about what that would be, though :-?

A deal that would work would be the following, for example:

Philadelphia Trade Breakdown
Change in Team Outlook: -14.5 ppg, -8.3 rpg, and -4.7 apg.
Incoming Players
Patrick O'Bryant
7-0 C from Bradley
1.5 ppg, 1.2 rpg, 0.2 apg in 4.5 minutes

Brandan Wright
6-10 PF from North Carolina
2.9 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 0.3 apg in 7.1 minutes

Mickael Pietrus
6-6 SG / SF from France (Foreign)
6.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 0.6 apg in 17.3 minutes

Golden State's 1st round pick this year

Outgoing Players
Calvin Booth
6-11 C from Penn State
0.7 ppg, 1.1 rpg, 0.3 apg in 6.5 minutes

Andre Iguodala
6-6 SG / SF from Arizona
19.1 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 4.6 apg in 39.2 minutes

Reggie Evans
6-8 PF from Iowa
5.1 ppg, 8.1 rpg, 0.9 apg in 25.3 minutes

Golden State Trade Breakdown
Change in Team Outlook: +14.5 ppg, +8.3 rpg, and +4.7 apg.
Incoming Players
Calvin Booth
6-11 C from Penn State
0.7 ppg, 1.1 rpg, 0.3 apg in 6.5 minutes

Andre Iguodala
6-6 SG / SF from Arizona
19.1 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 4.6 apg in 39.2 minutes

Reggie Evans
6-8 PF from Iowa
5.1 ppg, 8.1 rpg, 0.9 apg in 25.3 minutes

Outgoing Players
Patrick O'Bryant
7-0 C from Bradley
1.5 ppg, 1.2 rpg, 0.2 apg in 4.5 minutes

Brandan Wright
6-10 PF from North Carolina
2.9 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 0.3 apg in 7.1 minutes

Mickael Pietrus
6-6 SG / SF from France (Foreign)
6.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 0.6 apg in 17.3 minutes

This year's 1st round pick

If the Sixers think that Iggy might walk or just don't want to pay him the amount of money he's looking for, then trading him for Wright's rookie contract and some expirings doesn't seem to be the worst solution. Brandan is an extremely talented young PF with a lot of upside whose offensive abilities should be a nice complement to Daly's great defense.
I'm still not sure whether this package is good enough, though - the Sixers get rid of Evans' contract, which is a good thing. I included Booth in order to give Golden State another backup Center. It also means small financial savings for the Sixers. They get a nice prospect as well as a useful expiring in Pietrus, and a 1st round pick.
Since the pick shouldn't be that good I'm thinking that replacing it with Belinelli might make this deal better value-wise. I'm just not sure whether the Warriors would be willing to give up a lot of money and two rookies in order to pay Iggy the money he wants. I still think he'd be a great fit on their team, though, adding to their defense while being able to keep up with their uptempo style of play.

How about replacing the pick with Belinelli? Does that even make it closer for Sixers fans?

I agree.

The Warriors aren't giving up Wright for Iggy, we're perfectly happy with Ellis/Jackson at the wing positions.

Right, we weren't the ones who proposed this trade, it was a Philly fan I believe. Having said that, I think that if you did want to move Iggy, there would be many teams out there willing to accomodate you and probably willing to give you much more. The fact that the Warriors greatest strenth (which was already alluded to) is where Iggy would have to play, lessens the desire to move to try and acquire him (does not lessen his overall value, just his value to us) and couple that with the long term salary implications does not really lend itself to this kind of a deal.

However, if Iggy were available for something along the lines of a "bargain", we'd be foolish not to at least consider it, just as it would be with any other topflight player, but we're not going to break up something that going is quite well for us at this to make that happen.
