Aldridge's (and other Blazers', notably Outlaw's) rebounding has improved tremendously this year. We're still not a great rebounding team, but we're passable. Atlanta just has a lot of freakishly athletic bigs, and the refs were letting them go over the back quite a bit. You can't get down on Aldridge, he's clearly improved since the start of the season and is definitely working on his flaws.

With Aldridges work ethic, I'm not worried about him. Whatever needs working on will be his sole purpose for the next few months.

You understood wrong. Bill Walton was the top rebounder and shot blocker in the league in 76-77, earning him All-NBA second team and All-Defense first team, not to mention finished second in league MVP voting that year. The next year, of course, he won the league MVP, and if he hadn't been injured Portland would have repeated probably two more times before there would have been significant competition. He was a true superstar, which is why he was picked as one of the top 50 players of all time despite only have really three healthy seasons in his career. Without the injuries, he likely would have ranked at the top of the heap as the best all around center to play in the league to that point, as he could score, pass, and defend with the best that have ever played.

So I just got done watching the game--a couple of thoughts:

1) SERGIO!!!!! Wow. If not for missed open shots, would have had a double-double it seemed. He seemd to be running about 10% slower than he normally does, maybe channeling Brandon a bit. If he can keep playing like this, Jack is immediately expendible, particularly if he can take a guy like Josh Smith down to the blocks and still get an open look.

2) Roy is really amazing--he was having a horrible game and yet still managed to almost get 20 points and still draw double and triple teams.

3) Outlaw was phenomenal with the exception of the missed dunk. 'Nuff said.

4) Joel was a monster on the boards. He really seems to have remembered how he played replacing Theo a few years back that earned him the contract.

5) Once Lamarcus gets more consistent, which I believe he will in the next year or two with more experience, he'll be an all-star. He looked like he was a bit tired today, missing relatively uncontested shots, but I'd bet he's the guy who has the best game in Portland after some home cooking and a night in his own bed again. After banging with Dwight Howard he looked a bit hung over physically.

On the Atlanta side:
1) Imagine how good Josh Smith would be if he could shoot at all. The guy lays bricks for double-digits on offense.

2) Joe Johnson is soooooo much more effective than he was in Phoenix when he would practically spike himself off the dribble. He's like Roy with a little more offense on his shoulders and probably a little less leadership (although the Atlanta fans would know his leadership qualities better than I would).

3) Horford is going to be a stud in this league.

4) I'm still not sold on Marvin Williams. I think he'll be one of those good 6th men on a great team or a mediochre starter for a mediochre or bad team his whole career. I hope he proves me wrong, though, since he seems like a good guy.

Finally--Atlanta has improved so much it's almost like watching a different team. It's kind of like watching us if you're a fan of another team I think--you're not sure who the players are or what their tendencies are, bu they fight to the end, they hustle, and they are young. The major difference is that Atlanta doesn't distribute the ball like us at all, depending more on posting up, and they are a poor outside shooting team which allows defenses to collapse down on them.

I have the feeling that with us rested and Atlanta on their West swing, the score won't be so close.

All I have to say is screw league pass. They didnt get the broadcast right until the start of the 2nd half, which would have been fine, but I had to go to work at the 6 minute mark of the 3rd. That would have still been fine, but they decided not to add the game to the league pass broadband archives, and that ruined my plan of watching the rest of the game after work. Glad they won, but pissed I didnt get to watch it and even more pissed that this is the 2nd Blazer game in a row that league pass has absolutely dropped the ball on.

That's great and all, but he really needs to work on his rebounding like a mad man.

This kid seriously needs lessons in boxing out and blocking off the cutter. Atlanta didn't have any bigs who were gobbling up the boards. It was just players who managed to get good position. Aldridge should have been able to rebound over any of them.

Yeah, it is tough to watch us fumbling board after board, and watch the other team get opportunity after opportunity. We should have buried the Hawks. Oh well, it was exciting to watch!! :banghead:

It was pretty clear that wasn't you. Anybody who's been around this board for anytime at all knows your style, how you talk, present yourself, etc.

Yea, the were supposed to finish poorly, in their division. Walton was to frail, no one else was a go to guy. Haha I like how that turned out.

He still sometimes zones off in to Travis Out-there land and seems lost on the court. He did that in the Orlando game.
