OT ~ McGrady Faking the High Road

Post#1 » by thebossman » Tue Jan 22, 2008 6:32 am

LINK

"If it was my choice, I would select another guy to participate in my spot because I see other guards that are having outstanding seasons."

So T-Mac is saying that others are more deserving to start, and feels he should give up his spot.

But did people forget this:

"If I don't feel I'm going to be safe, if I am on that team(2008 All Star team), I will look into probably not even going," McGrady said.

LINK

He is trying to look like he is being kind by giving up his starting spot, but really he is just scared to be going to new orleans.

Somehow I doubt thats the case.... If there's any reason why we wouldn't want to go its because he just came back from an injury, so he may see healing and resting up so he can help his team make a run for the playoffs after the break a better option, in which case it would be a very selfless act.....

did you read the second article? I even remember it from last year that he was scared while in Vegas. He said that he didnt feel safe there and if it wasnt manadatory for the players invited to go that he wouldnt be there. He mentioned after last All Star game that its just not safe for NBA players cuz to many ppl have guns and stuff in the clubs and other night locations.

I don't have to read the article, I remember seeing it exactly the day after he said it last year... Its just talk, he didn't even mention what his standards of 'safety' are... how can you really be safe anywhere anyway?in the end i'm sure the Rockets or the league would beef up security if he was really concerned... just because its New Orleans doesn't mean its some kind of lawless wasteland, the league has some crazy security provisions they arrange way before the actual weekend. If anything those comments were noted by Stern and co, and maybe different policies will be enacted this time around...

We can speculate all we want but what's the point?
Maybe some bookie mob boss threatened him over his constant/random injuries. Maybe he actually reads criticisms and knows that a lot of his votes are from the Yao effect. Or maybe he knows people get their panties tied up in a bunch by every word he says. I'd do it if I could just to mess with people.
I did find it interesting in him stating Vegas as unsafe the same year the gambling ref scandal came out. Now where's my tin foil hat...

I honestly think McGrady has some type of depression.

TMAC doesn't want to go to New Orleans. He said he didn't think it was a safe city to host a NBA all star game, it wouldn't suprise me if he was faking it. Either way TMAC needs all the rest he can get, it's not about all star appearances for him anymore, he needs to get out of the first round!

I don't even think TMAC wouldnt' made the alstar reserves for guards... There's Chris Paul, AI, Brandon Roy, maybe deron williams etc... all played better (while kobe and nash starters)

Can't blame him if he's scared. Not saying New Orleans isn't a safe place to be, but after everything that happened in Vegas last year I wouldn't want to go either.

New Orleans just got their team back last year and was still under major reconstruction. Obviously the security that they can provide might be limited. It's been a full year since he said that. Maybe New Orleans has improved a lot, and maybe not. Either way, he's still willing to give up his spot to another player.

Way to turn something positive into a negative.

It has more to do with his knee still bothering him. He said he would give up his spot but he would still attend.

it prolly does have to deal with his injury and he feels he wont be able to put up a show, but on the other hand you gotta think the two incidents are kinda related...
